I told Mechguy I'd try the soap, and since I got the puck in my "bag of cookies" I decided to give it a go. I didn't see the scent on the regular drop down list of scents. I'm not positive what that means, but I'll give you a rundown of my experience anyways. The smell, to me was something like tangy watermelon candy. I was surprised that the scent didn't come off as a "kiddie" fragrance. It wasn't at all unpleasant, though it probably wasn't a smell I would have picked out on my own. Scent is always a personal thing and everyone is going to have their likes and dislikes. It took me a while to load my cheap VDH brush sufficiently to start making a lather. I have Extremely hard water, so it seems everything seems to take more soap, more effort, etc. Once I got the soap going, I was impressed. I got a rich creamy lather that lasted a long time. The lather was so much thicker and longer lasting than the Colonel conks I was using, I'm really considering just putting the Bay Rum on the shelf. Once I got the lather on my face, i found out this stuff was icy. Really icy. My face was feeling cold for the better part of an hour. As we are in the middle of a long stretch of one-hundred degree days the feeling was more than welcome. I will say that the shave I got from this soap was far superior to the Colonel Conk's. Unfortunately, that's really the only comparison I can give as that was the only soap I had used prior. All in all I was very impressed with this shave soap, and I look forward to trying more TSD products in the future. For now, I think I'll continue to use this soap as it seems to work best with my water/brush combination.
I was just surprised mostly with the night and day difference with the lathering. I guess I'll have to give the VDH soap that came with my kit a try too, see how that works with the water around here.
Yep, JoAnna's soap is good stuff, and the Iced Watermelon Sorbet scent was last offered up as one of her Limited Run soaps, so when I ordered mine I went ahead and bought two. Her current L.R. scent is Iced Sweet Tea, which I didn't think would transfer well into a soap scent as I figured it would be too sweet smelling, but she talked me into trying it and as usual proved me wrong.
The Iced Watermelon Sorbet isn't bad but The Iced Sweet Tea is awesome, smells exactly like the taste of iced tea! I decided to break down and get a soap again, this time Coconut, great scent but I still think the Wheat Cream is where its at.
yup good stuff! I haven't used mine often, but that is due to the silly size of the rotation. It is good and lathers great.
I have never found a Conk product that I like enough to buy more than once. TSD soaps on the other hand are very nice, and available in a lot of flavors. As has been said already, the limited run scents, including the Iced Watermelon are superb. I do wish there was more Yukihana (spelling?) available though. It has a fantastic scent!
I told you it was good soap. I grated mine up and put it into a shave stick container, and that works great for me. Leaves your face feeling good for the day. I find myself running my hand over my face throughout the day
Woo! Second shave with the Watermelon soap was great. Colonel Conk's Bay rum has now been demoted to the position of an exceptional hand soap. I hate to waste.
My puck is coming to it's end, it will be a sad day in the Stryker house when there is no more Yukihana to be had.
