Yes.. the rumours are true. I have fallen into the straight razor trap. :rofl After prodding and poking from Isaac, Neale and Raf I have finally stopped listening to reason and am going into straights. Raf is being kind enough to help out and I am sure Isaac will tease as always. Hide the children.. I am coming! Thanks guys!
Have fun, Ken :: Seems to me you'll need a new brush (the Custom 2007 Shavemac) to get things started off on the right foot :rofl
Fergie, back to the brush forum. Now Ken, keep us posted. i.e. what razor you get, strop, shave experience etc.
Will do. Actually, I can already take care of one of those right now. Here is the strop I have. It is basic but I have been told it will get the job done. As for the blade, Raf is being kind enough to send me one. Isaac is sad because I didn't let him send me one.. but Raf sounded a lot meaner so I figured I was safer with him sending it to me. :rofl
Illinois is a FINE strop (I have 2). Heck a leather belt can get the job done. You'll do fine with the Fightin' Ilini.
I recall seeing this strop around before, I am surprised you know what it was from my horrible pictures.. haha It is a little dry.. Raf said I should caress it with my hands and give it a baseball glove oil massage to soften it back up. I hope I get dinner out of it for this.. rofl
Poor Ken! Being pressured into everything. Buy the brush! Get a straight! Poor Ken! btw, don't buy the brush. Just trying to help. Only 11 hours of resisting to go.
I jumped in recently also. I'm gaining experience every time I shave with a str8. Sometimes I feel I'm taking a couple steps back but gain ground the next time. At the moment I can't stop buying razors. I have bought 3 shave ready that I shave with and 3 E-bay projects that I plan to practice my honing in the far future. Raf can put an excellent sharp edge on a razor, so you'll definetely get a good start. :1respect
Even a western saddle billet strap would probably work. I don't think I'll be trying that with a good razor though.
