I see a lot of suggestions of using hair conditioner on shaving brushes but have never quite understood the reasoning. One characteristic of just about every conditioner I've seen is that it will fix split ends. Now that may be great for pretty hair but when it comes to shaving brushes we really want split ends. So in the words of Ricky; "You got some splainin to do!" What is the advantage of using hair conditioner on shaving brushes?
I have done it/do it. I have no idea if it helps or not, but I read it on a forum so it must be true.
I use conditioner on my brushes. It helps with the funk smell of new brushes and makes the stiffer brushes like boar just a little softer. I will give the disclaimer that I only use it on new brushes the first time I clean them.
It seems to me that it would be counter-productive to use conditioner during the break-in. After that, it might be good, depending on how soft you like your brushes.
