Scummy basin after shaving? Some soaps/creams can tend to leave a bit of residue on the inside of the basin/sink, mostly the tallow based or better soaps This might be a travesty, but I do sometimes resort to using the shaving brush to give the basin a quick wash down while I rinse the brush clean Only with my boar brushes of course. I wouldn't use my better badgers, or synthetics for this Mostly I just use my hands, nail brush or paper towel. For really stubborn residue I find a quick spritz with diluted vinegar or even citric acid gets the basin nice and clean, but does add extra time What do you guys do?
I have a towel I use throughout my shave. I use it for an x pattern on my brush when done, my shaving bowl, and I use it to wipe down the sink Sent from my Pixel 9 Pro using Tapatalk
I squeeze out the soap that's left in the brush around the sink, take a brush with a handle scrub the sink rinse the sink & before I walk out of the bathroom take a look in the mirror and think I get better looking every day, I've got 82 years of looking in the mirror. In the bathroom I shave in I only use the (small) sink for shaving and keep it clean. I suppose I could wash my hands in it but there’s a large utility sink in the next room that is more convenient. Same as you, I use my boar brush to clean the shave soap scum that accumulates and then I rinse the brush. I have good quality boar brushes and they are excellent for the task and no worse for wear.
I use lens cleaner spray/lens towel and or pre-moistened lens wipes (always have on-hand for my glasses anyway) for cleaning the mirror and the sink basin. The sink top always gets a wipe down with a microfiber towel. Works great and keeps the cooties out of my shave brushes.
thanks for the replies Cool ideas No harm done in using the boar brush though, right? I mean it's in there anyway and while rinsing it, one might as well use to swish the basin. at least I am not the only one using the shaving brush! plan b though: since I use a clean face cloth each day, I will use yesterday's one to clean the sink. No more tissues (messy) or paper towel (wasteful)
