I have a Miele. It's okay I guess (when I get around to using it), but there must be better ones out there. How about one of these?............. :)

Get a Dyson. They cost a bit more, but man, are they ever worth it. Check Costco if you have them in your area, or go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond with one of their 20% off coupons. The nice thing about the Dyson (assuming we are talking about the upright) is that it is like two vacs in one. The long hose basically turns it into a canister vac in a snap. They also make some really nice attachments, like the soft duster and another one that cleans bed comforters. I have had mine for about 4-5 years with no problems of any kind.

I'd suggest going to a vacuum store in your area and look at the different brands and models, try them out and find one you like. By getting it from there you can get a better deal on maintenance and servicing. I have had the same vacuum for the last 15 years and take it in every year for servicing and it still works great.

I (well, the wife) bought one of those filter-less water thingy systems... Cost an arm and a leg but I must agree the result is beyond anything I've seen!

Hey PO, it looks like we are both "Drug Store Robbers". You grab the Depends, and I'll get the rectal thermometers! :D

Now this is one I have never heard of... unless you mean a standard Carpet Cleaner like a Bissel. I don't think that would work for a large space.. just spills.

Really I have to agree with Dyson. I have never heard anything bad about them and they are always high on the recommendation lists. Expensive though.. but quality always costs.

Now you made me run down and actually touch the thing... I was hoping to leave that to my better half... ;)

Well, in my [humble] opinion it was overpriced, but I agree to the statement that indoor atmosphere has radically changed since this device entered the arena. And the floors are much cleaner, we have two dogs that not only shed hairs, but bring in gravel on their paws. Before and after this device is just undescribable...

Got one of those bagless canister vacs here recently. The thing picks up stuff so much better than any upright we've owned lately, and it's not as much as a Dyson. Good reviews and a good report here.
