I'm presenting you an Aftershave Balm from a very ancient and prestigious Portuguese brand - 444. This brand makes this Aftershave balm for ages (I can't tell you how old is it, but I'll try to find out) and also a styptic stick. Any old timer here knows this brand. I use this as my A/S balm after every shave. It gives me that "vintage feeling" we get when we shave with a straight razor . The scent is menthol. After I shave, I put some A/S - typically Floid, La Toja, Musgo Real or Proraso - and let it sting for a few seconds, then I usually grab this tube and mix it with a few drops of A/S and put it on my face. That gives me a cooling sensation that lasts a long time. It's composition is: glycerin, menthol, distilled water, carboxivinil resin and disoproprilamin. These last 2 ingredients are not very well translated I guess - I'm not a chemical expert, sorry.
Good Stuff Just recieved the 'special pack' from Leon today. Fast shipping only shipped on Wednesday. So thats 1 floid spanish aftershave splash, 1 la toja aftershave splash, 1 la toja shave cream tube, 1 444 aftershave (whatever that is). I have tried everything here but the flois and the 444. The 444 smells like pure menthol, so I assume its really cooling. The floid is simply unique I love the smell. Will test them out tomorrow morning and let you know. My bloody stubble wont grow fast enough!!! Crosbie
Hi Crosbie! I'm glad you received it well. I'm hoping to hear some good reviews about this stuff here, just like the folks on the other forums did. Just a tip on using the "444", put some drops of AS splash or cologne in it before rubbing it on the face. This way, the strong menthol scent is not so aggressive.
I've used the 444 after shave balm a few of times now - Thanks Leon! The first time, I forgot to mix it with A/S splash and applied it straight - that was a mistake. I didn't care for the scent and found it to be a bit tacky. The next time, I put a small dab of the 444 into my palm and gave a small splash of Spanish Floid A/S and applied it to my face. Its Great! You get all the benefits of the alcohol splash with a cooling moisurizing effect from the 444. The scent of the 444 was pretty much muted by the Floid. Today, I tried with the Italian Floid with the same result. Tomorrow its Tabac! I usually use an alcohol splash, but many of them leave me a little dry and I end up using something like Skin Food afterward. The 444 is like the missing component. Its perfect. At this price, you can't go wrong. Good show. Jordan
