blanka I will not eat my shaving products. Promise.

I encountered an unopened box of 1930's Avon Bay Rum yesterday. Is that worth anything (is it even for men? I couldn't tell).

I don't know about the Bay Rum, but I am buying up every last drop of Avon Tai Winds that I come across and so far the old stuff smells just fine to me.

If you're trying to sell it, it's worth only what someone is willing to pay. What that is, I have no idea.

If you're going to keep it, for you it's worth keeping.
If you toss it in the trash, for you it's worthless.

Is it for men? Tradition will tell you Bay Rum is for men. Others will tell you scent is not gender specific. Tradition seems to dictate what is a "man's" scent and what is a "woman's" scent.

Are you a guy? Do you like it? Are you going to wear it? If "yes" to all three questions, then it's for men.

Cool find, by the way :happy088

    Actuallyyyyy...........:D
Florals have long been used by both sexes (Tradition).
However, ask any Average Joe on the street and he'll very likely scoff at the mere suggestion he were a floral cologne.

    My point? Tradition changes.

now.......where's that pesky cup of coffee I just had? :think002

When I think bay rum, I can't help but to think of olden sailors and pirates on the sea (most of which were men). Yeah.... I know it makes no sense.

I like bay rum (and pirates too). I say open it up and give it a whiff. You might be sitting on a totally unique scent.

I got my first bottle of bay rum in my late teens/early twenties from Avon. At that time it was sold in miniature jug type bottles. It was great stuff. Last year, I bought an empty one of those bottles on Ebay for $.99 plus s&h and poured most of a plastic bottle of Superior 70 into it. You can find these little jugs there but the prices have gotten unreasonable.

    OH...ARRR mateys!

That is a neat find. Most aftershaves hold up surprisingly well over time. The chief enemy is not so much a loss of potency but evaporation however if the bottles are properly sealed that's usually not a problem. My reserve of Hai Karate (kept safely in my nuclear blast proof bunkers) still smells great!!

I am a fan of the Superior 70 Bay Rum. It has a nice scent and it's hard to beat the price.
