Just acquired a Gillette Safety razor... hoping to fine tune what I know about it. What I think it is:
New Value three piece in 24 k gold plate, with a brass blade case. All of it in a brass (originally plated?) hinged box. The box is lined with blue velvet and the word ARISTOCRAT can be made out. I think the box is from the 1934 Christmas season, but I thought that gift set included a TTO one piece razor.
There are some inconsistencies leading me to question this as an absolute identification. Any thoughts?

So, in your “expert” opinion, and in the absence of a production date code or serial number, can this be dated? If I understood correctly, the “New” was produced 1931-1939. The case, I thought, was mid-decade 1930s. Am I figuring this correctly?

Cool! It definitely has the Patent/reissue numbers on it. I got this as part of a “lot” of “antique shaving” gear that also included
    1) a Valet Auto-Strop in a case,
    2) a Durham Demonstrator combed “straight” razor,
    3) a cheap Pakistan straight razor
    4) a brass stand with a brass-handled brush and a “Trac-2”- style brass razor
    5) another (21 mm?) brush
    And...
    6) a vintage mug (with the image of an antique Cadillac on it)
    All together for $50.

    Good job. :happy096:

One of my first vintage razors was a Gillette New Long Comb with the same handle as yours. These are excellent razors to use for a life time. I hope you enjoy.

This is going to be a gift for my son. I’m a straight razor shaver and he was started on that. He tried a safety razor and liked it so this is more his style. I’m hoping to give as much information on the razor as possible.
I thought I’d give him the stand with the brush (and the Trac-2), the mug and the Gillette for his birthday.

What a great gift for him to enjoy. :happy088:

Like you, I gave my son and son in law vintage razors. The son got a 1948-51 Super Speed and the son in law a '56 Red Tip and a New Short Comb.
