I love finding vintage Old Spice in the wild, and have quite a few, and today I did pretty well. Found this 1962 Traveler Set, item number 3365, for $4 and the 1956 cologne for $1, all the bottles are full.
Here's a pretty good guide to OS products http://www.cr8on.com/ That style bottle was introduced in 1956 and the Traveler Set with plastic lids started in 1962. You can't specifically date a particular bottle to a certain year, except for some of the special items that were only made in certain years, but you can date the first year each style was made.
Gorgeous find!!! Tom if you don't mind, where in IN are you? I'm originally from the Kokomo area myself. Greg
Been through the area many times driving in and out of "home" from the southern states!! It's almost a tradition to stop at the Jerry's in Jeffersonville for some biscuit's and gravy to hold me over for the last stretch home!!! Good to see another Hoosier on the boards. And I'll be sure to watch my speed when I pass through, not that I don't want to meet you but just not in that way...LOL...
I've eaten there many times, and don't worry about meeting me that way, I'm a detective. Where do you live now?
Currently I'm stationed in Guam, all alone, my family is where I was last stationed, Kings Bay, GA. I am trying to convince them to let me retire at the end of October this year, that puts me at 20 years and 10 months. As soon as I can pull it off I'm going back to GA, to start my semi-retired life. The Navy won't pay me enough retirement to fully retire at this stage, but I don't have to have as well a paying job after I get my retirement check. Who know's I may go into your field, it's something I've done during my time, and lord knows I know a whole bunch about the other side from my experiences in Howard County, seems like everytime I come back they want to spend some time with me...LOL... I think they miss the times we shared 22 years ago!!!
Hiya, Over the years I've been lucky enough to find lots of vintage Old Spice aftershave and cologne bottles......usually full ones. They range from the mid/late 50s through the 80s. As you can imagine, some of em have lost a bit or turned a little, but most of the juice is still fine. For a special treat, I'll get out this Old Spice can from the late 50s that was part of an used set that included some aftershave. It's a surprisingly good performer, with good cushion and slick, plus the after shave skin care is better than usual. Main reason I use it is the scent. Yep, it's excellent....even better than any of the various liquid vintages I've sniffed over the years. This stuff has a slight note of clove that's pretty interesting, and a very clear and mellow Old Spice base. Amazing how good this stuff is, after spending 50+ years in the can. Martin Oh yeah, another worthwhile frag like Old Spice would be Hai Karate 'Oriental Spice' AS, which was made in 1972 or 1973. I believe it was made to compete with OS, and it's a nice scent. Tom, let me know if you wanna try a decant of this stuff.
That's a great set Martin. You know, some guys really like to bash goo in a can but that's a reminder of how long that it's been around. Yeah, I'd love to try a little of the Hai Karate. I've got a gallon or so of vintage Avon Spicy, their Old Spice clone and several other Avon scents, if you'd like to try any of them. We can work out some kind of trade.
Just more proof to my theory that all the vintage shaving gear has moved south, no longer to be found up here in the north Great finds, Tom! happy088
