Does anyone have any info on the WH Morley and Sons straight razors. This one is from my grandfather and is marked Clover Brand and Germany on the other side of the blade. The pic is my avatar which is not a great picture but you get the idea The case is the usual leather sleeve. I think he bought it around 1920.
W. H.Morley & Sons were in business C. 1913 - 1927 in Germany - marks included the four-leafed clover and the 'XLNT' mark. Seen a few, all seemed very good razors. I have one on my site at the moment.
By the way, the handle/scale material is most likely celluloid. I'm basing that on the year of purchase you provided, and the embossing of the crane in it. Be careful with it around heat sources (this includes very hot water) as it can warp or melt the scales. Maas polish can also be used to polish up the scales (and the blade too of course), and give them a nice lustre.
Thanks for the advice and the info on the material. It's a neat looking old razor. It looks and feels very sharp but I am having a heck of a time getting that last bit of sharpening that makes it comfortable to use. I'm used to sharpening knives and I know this is a different ballgame altogether. Has anyone tried an old belt to use as a strop?
