Today’s finds. I went to the small engine repair place in the little town I live in to get a mower fixed. The owner also does a junk store with stuff he gets from storage lockers. I had asked him to keep an eye out for old razors for me. He had these, plus a “Schick Stick” injector that had a plastic shift knob on the end. He is a car guy, so he wanted to keep that one. So here is what I ended up with: Coffin shaped razor box, decent shape, no markings. Are these collectable? “WR Case and Sons #22 Warranted for Life” 5/8 straight. Looks like a French toe(?) double shoulder. Both scaled chipped and broken past the pin, some pitting and active rust. Hone wear on both sides. “Cattaraugus Cutlery Company, Little Valley” small straight. Company was open from 1886-1963 in New York. Blade is about 2.25 inches long, and just under 4/8th. It wasn’t cut down unless the scales were redone to match. They are a little transparent, with some small cracks. I doubt they could be removed, cleaned, and repined without breaking. There is some rust on the spine side of the toe, and near the pivot point. Is this a good find? L&A Razor Co chrome shavette. Some pitting in the chrome. H2 Slim adjustable (1962) This is the dirtiest razor I have ever purchased. I had to soak it for a bit in water to be able to clean it enough to read the date code. Once I did that however, it opened right up, and clicked through all the adjustments. No name OC three piece. Brass stamped head and aluminum handle. No idea who made this, but if it shaves well, I may have my travel razor. Plastic (Bakelite?) three piece razor. Marked “National” and “19” or “I9”. Couldn’t find much info on this one, but its fairly clean with some rust on the treads and post. What is the best way to clean those without damaging the rest of the razor? GEM Junior. I think this is a 1912 model. Its almost as filthy as the Slim is. All the razors had blades in them. I put them all in my blade bank. There isn’t any reason to keep a GEM marked blade is there? I have been looking for some cheap straights to practice honing on, and these just kind of fell in my lap. I think I can clean the stuff up and find homes for what I don’t want. Any information on the razors would be appreciated.
Pretty cool! Got some work on cleanup but that's the fun of finding stuff like that, seeing if you can breathe some life back into seemingly dead stuff. Good luck and post your successes!
Created a thread for the saftey razors. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...ht-razors-lots-of-pictures.44851/#post-829424 Will do another one for the straights when I get to them.
Nice find. If the Slim cleans up and the straights restore well, you should have some nice razors come out of the deal No idea about the other razors and the shavette. I don't think that the razor boxes are really collected within our circles, but straights are odd in that the big time collectors might have never even used a straight before. I bet there are circles where that box is worth something. In the interim, if you ever sell a straight, it will likely go for more if you sell it with that box (though noting that the box probably does not match the straight).
