I can't tell if that is a gold tone or silver tone? But it looks like a fat handle tech. Im sure the experts will chime in soon. Nothing like getting passed down some family history. Congrats.
See if there is a letter and a number printed on the underside of the base plate. If there is look up the date code. http://www.renaldo.us/grbd.php
Nice gift! Family heirlooms are great (I have my great Uncle's old type). It's a fat handle tech, all right. The straight slots mean late 40's, I believe. Of course, I'm not one of the experts, I'm just a "flunky". You can Google "Mr Razor" and go to that site for pics.
OP this. The letter would be just SW or 7 O'Clock of the R in REG.US. If there is no letter it would be a 1946-50.
That is great getting your grandpa's razor. That will clean up very well I believe. It is also a very good shaver.
Congrats on such a nice piece of family history. Only made better because you can clean it up and use it.
It is a fat handle Tech. I know, not because I am an expert, but because I have one just like it, and yes, it does clean up nice. It is a great, mild razor. I love mine.
Thanks for all the replies Gents. I'm assuming then it's a 1946-50 and no way to get anymore specific then that? It made my day today. He passed away in 2007 at 93 yrs old. He worked in the shipyard in Mobile, AL during WWII and then He worked til he was 86 driving a bulldozer 6 days a week running a landscaping business for around 50 years and on Sundays played a guitar in church for atleast 40 yrs. They don't make them like my Grandfather anymore. I will forever treasure this razor.
I own one of those. It was completely devoid of any plating when I bought it, just plain brass. I polished it up, but it tarnished again. Doesn't make a dime's worth of difference to me, as it is one of the best shavers I've got. I will eventually have it replated, and it'll be worth every penny. Congrats! Grandpa was wise.
