This morning as I was starting my routine, the phone rang. After taking care of that I went back into the bathroom, loaded my brush and began to lather up. Then I remembered (I hate distractions) that I hadn't washed my face. Well I just kind of ran the brush around, not building lather, just kind of smearing it on. I wet my hands and washed my face with the soap. My skin felt clean, I got a great shave and the only scent was of my shave soap. Any one else ever tried this? I'm going to do it again.
Yep, I sometimes use poor performing shave soaps in the shower or as travel soaps. I can't tell the difference between shaving soaps and non-shaving soaps for washing purposes. The terribly disappointing Lightfoot's Pine shaving soap is in its container waiting for my next trip. Jordan
I have found a little dab of porasso in the palm (cream not pre-post), then worked into the face then hot rinse, then lather with cream of choice, results in an excellent shave!
If the shave soap doesn't cut it, it ends up as a shower soap. The original formula Olagalla Soaps ended up this way. The new ones won't.
I've never tried it but I can imagine that shaving soap would make for a nice face wash. I suppose price would be one thing that would keep people from using it as an everyday soap.
I ordered a ton of soaps from one of the vendors. After realizing it would take a life time to get through them all I just started using them as bath soaps.
Does this mean that it might be possible to explore the flip side of this coin and try shaving with a bath soap? ... something in a Claus Porto, perhaps?
Highland Aromatics used to make a lovely Violet bath soap, and boy did it make a great shave soap! Sadly, they discontinued the Violet soap in favor of bluebell, and that doesn't lather well at all. I got the Violet Soap at Mitchell's, which used to be a store like Ross.
+1 It was Herban Cowboy shave soap, in my case. It was so bad, it barely cut it for plain old bathing...
Noob, You just admitted to purchasing Herban Cowboy soap. I think you can find support groups for people who smell something that aweful and still buy it. Don't tell me you didn't smell it, it has an opening in the package specifically so you can smell it. I think it would sell more without the opening.
Ha! Nope, I didn't buy it. It was a gift from my well meaning mother-in-law. She also bought a couple pucks for my f-i-l. She asked me how I liked it and I was polite yet honest. I seem to remember saying, "the scent's not too great and it doesn't lather well." I don't think my f-i-l used his, either.
Well there is indeed nothing new under the sun. Thanks Will. BTW, We do not sing and/or clap our hands in the shower! Please cease spreading these rumors.
You have restored my view of yourself (and likely the view of all others who have smelled Herban Cowboy). This stuff competes with AV for the worst scent ever.
every time I have had Williams shaving soap, I was disappointed with the bad lather and performance, so I used it as shower soap.
Haha. Williams. I wouldnt put that stuff anywhere on my body. Melt it and use it as antifreeze with the velva.
