Howdy all, I know there are a bunch of members here who use fountain pens and other such items. I'm wondering if any of you use wax seals, and if so what do you recommend. I recently came across a few seals at an antique store and it really sparked my interest.
I don't use any yet. However, I have received some purchases from a company that the owner uses seals. It really puts a nice touch on the final presentation of letters. He uses J.Herbin wax - but then again, that is what he sells in his store.
I figured I'd repost in this as kind of a update. I bought a bunch of wax and used it for my engagement party invites they turned out amazing. The wax was a stewart houghton supple wax which mails very well. Here are some pics. Since then I've been using it on all letters I've sent out.
Thanks alot I figured on a forum filled with people who enjoy vintage things that something related to fountain Pens like wax seals would be well received. It adds I nice touch I think. But it can be time consuming while doing them en mass.
While not vintage, I have been using my Lamy Safari that BG gave me as my exclusive pen on a daily basis. I have the refill converter and am starting my second bottle of ink. I love this pen and perhaps I will start using the wax seals as well so as to add to the old world luxury feel.
I use Lamy Safaris at work (and Al-stars/vistas). They are a good quality pen that won't break my heart if they take a walk or get damaged. They are a good knock about fountain pen. I have some Esties and other vintage pens; however, it is the Wality 69TL, Lamy, and TWSBI 530 that get the most use. If you get interested in doing Wax Seals, Brian Goulet over at Gouletpens.com has some videos and blogs about how to do them. His blog is inknouveau.
I pretty much have the same pen. Lamy studio for me. Same nibs as the safari but in a bit more dressy body. My favorite nib is the xf leaves a great thin but shady line with the right ink.
Lamy Safari? I have: blue, charcoal, yellow, red, and an Al-Star blue. All fine nib. Yeah, I like 'em
I have just one in purple (of course) in EF. I think the EF is too fine for me. My next one will be just plain fine. I am using Parker Quink in blue.
It is easy to swap nibs on these. Rather than buying a new lamy you can just get a nib. When I get home I can check if I have a nib to swap with you. Most of my spare lamy nibs are at work and I will be away from work until next week. typed on the go through tapatalk
Hmmm.. it looks like Lamy has hijacked this thread. Here is a quick video from Brian Goulet on how to change the Lamy nibs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPyKDtpREt4&feature=player_detailpage Here are some of his videos on wax seals (to put us back on topic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1J1yAW6nt4&feature=player_detailpage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvWSwxOhzgA&feature=player_embedded#at=27 No, I am not secretly employed by the Goulet Pen Co. I just have had good transactions with them and follow Brian's blog.
I have the fine and medium nib that I dont use. If anyone is interested in them just send me a pm. I'll throw in a wax stick too. I've been thinking about getting an italic one but don't know anyone whose used it.
I have an italic Pelikan 200. Not bad. I like it. I don't use it much, though. Just not practical for every day.
I have an idea for a convoluted 3 way swap... I have an italic nib (I will have to check to see what size and it is at work). Although an italic nib makes my writing look fancier, I don't use it and if I really want something to look better, I have some flex nib dip pens.
