just gave this a shot tonight,,,,.not a bad shave at all, no guard, personna blade, my mix of cream, proraso, noxzema, gabels pink, smooth sailing, couple weep's, nothing major, im happy, will shave with this weck for a while i like the shave i got tonight, nice splash of osage, ahhh, cold beer time!!!
thk u,,..yes i like it here.,, lot's of shave addict's like myself sharing there shaving stories and whats new in soaps, creams ,razor's..i just ordered a dreadnought cut throat shavette, im always on the go ,so it's either DE or Shavette's ,, i work to much to strope and hone a straight, maybe in the future i will,,,great forum here , lots of good info ,,back to the redsox..good week end to all..
I have a weck too. I like it a lot, in fact it's my go to straight. Get great shaves out of it and those personna blades last a while. I also have a sanguine shavette and a Parker push type shavette. I really enjoy the convenience and consistency of shavettes. After using shavette I couldn't go back to my straight, it gave too rough a shave, it needs a better honing I think. So I'm getting ready to invest in some hones and learn to keep my straight sharp and shave ready.
very nice jrodd,..i think im going to buy a few shavette's like the parker , i have the dreadnought on the way, see which one i like, but for now it's the weck sextoblade, nice clean shave with the personna blade, glad you like the weck as well,, i bought mine from ebay, i got lucky, it was in mint shape, very happy happy!!
It's going to be hard to beat the Weck. The Dreadnaught is a rebranded Sanguine razor. It's a decent bit of kit. Are you using old sextoblade carbon blades with it or are you using modern stainless Personna shaper blades?
I used the personna blade,, im waiting on the vintage weck blade's i bought off ebay< there suppose to be good as well!!!, i know the dread is a reband but i also heard good things about this and the coolcut4 shavette..
I think the cool cut is made by sanguine. The sanguine I have is fine, less comfortable to hold than my Parker. The sanguine is a bit squared, which makes it feel you have a less firm grip. Too much pressure on an edge makes it twist. I hope this makes sense. Maybe I'll put together a video comparing my shavettes.
The Weck blades can be (actually, must be) stropped like a regular straight razor blade, but most people just get the Personna blades (which are excellent) and don't worry about stropping. If you get vintage blades check the edge under magnification for signs of rust, and always dry the carbon blades immediately after use. Stay away from Sanguine branded "real" straight razors. The blades are Chinese garbage and won't hold an edge well. The scales tend to be nice and sometimes razor restorers will use them as part of a vintage blade restore. The coolcut4 and about 10 other shavettes are part of Sanguine Scissor Ltd's house brand razors. As such they are not, technically, a re-brand.
Welcome to TSD! I have the smaller Weck "hair shaper" which is great, but "Sextoblade" sounds so much cooler
Very informative video JRod..you've got loads of good nitty gritty details about those things. Thanks for sharing..
Theres a new shavette that I have an eye on right now too (at least new to me). I just found out about them today thanks to Ohpaos in the handle envy thread: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DonJae They are pricey but really cool looking and look like quality razors.
