First I must say I was surprised by how good this razor is built. For a budget priced Chinese made razor I was expecting it to be just adequate. Instead I found a well built and well finished precision tool. The finish was the real surprise as it's as well finished as a Merkur, maybe even a little better. I'll also say that the pictures of the gunmetal finish don't due it justice. This finish must be seen to be really appreciated. It just looks and feels good in the hand. Feel is very similar to a Super speed.

Now, on to the shave. This razor is well know for being very mild. Based on that, I purchased the Weishi with the primary purpose of head shaving. I was pleasantly surprised that I was also able to get excellent face shaves that were all very smooth. A few blades didn't work well with the Weishi, but most blades that work well in my Super Speed are just fine. I can understand how the razor is too mild for a few, but with proper technique I'd expect most guys shouldn't have a problem. Compared to my other razors, this is now in a tie for my favorite head shaving razor with my Fatboy and a close second for face shaving behind my '57 Super Speed. If I need to shave my head and face with just one razor, this wins hands down.

The other nice addition with this razor is the travel case it comes in. While not the best travel case you could buy, it's far more than I'd expect given the price. It's sturdy, has room for blades, and has a reasonable mirror.

You also get a couple incidental items in the form of a cleaning brush and 5 Dorco ST300 blades. Neither are a good reason to buy the razor. The blades are usable for me, but about half of you will just throw them out. The brush is nice when traveling but it's easier to use an old toothbrush when at home.

I'd recommend this to anyone except those who can only shave with aggressive razors. I think you'll be surprised at what you get for the money.

    My New Weishi Gun Metal

I first ran across the Gun Metal Weishi while on the Razor Blades and More website buying some Voskhod blades. It was LOVE at first site!:love055

I really liked the looks of the razor, and I must say that is the reason I bought it.

I would agree with ChemErik's overall assessment of the razor. It is a very mild razor. Even still, I can get a BBS shave everywhere except my neck, under my chin area. It takes 3 passes with some extra passes in a few areas for a REALLY smooth shave, but that's about standard for my other razors too.

I think it would be a great razor for sensitive areas, and may let the wife try it on her legs.

The one thing I've noticed is my handle seems to come loose while shaving. The first time I used it, I was a little scared to over tighten it since it is a Chinese import and I was afraid to warp it or otherwise damage it. I noticed that before I was finished, the handle was a little loose.

Second time I used it, I tightened it pretty good....I thought, and it still got loose before I finished. Next time I use it, I will make sure that it is tightened good and snug before starting to shave.

It is not near as aggressive as my Edwin Jagger, and is less aggressive than my Super Speed too. I would have to say that my overall favorite is the SS that Stingraysrock PIF'd me. It fits me just about perfect...not too aggressive and not too mild.

I marked it a little low on blade exposure because of it being so mild, and also marked it low on ease of use because of the problem I've had with the handle getting loose. Overall, I'd buy it again just for the beautiful finish!
