Both. Start of school can be a trying time. Except when they get older. Then you can't wait for them to go back to school.
You have to let go sometime. Plus letting go makes it easier to get them off to University later when they start to annoy you.. hehe
I just registured my oldest for High School. I went in with him and stood in line with him, with all the papers I filled out, he promptly told me to go sit somewhere, while he took care of it himself. A - I'm either not needed anymore B - I'm just embarassing C - Both I promise, I was NOT holding his hand. ( or hanging off his legs)
Start of school is also a time when you all should be very proud of your children. As I have no children yet I'm proud of you parents.
Geez, my oldest (10) is starting 5th grade and my youngest (8) is starting 3rd grade. Don't blink, because it goes by fast. Latest topic of conversation with 5th grader: Dad, why can't I have a cell phone? Latest topic of conversation with 3rd grader: Dad, why do you shave so much? And if my big sister gets a cell phone, can I get one too? My response to 5th grader: We'll see, but I didn't get a cell phone until I was 26 years old. My response to 3rd grader: Because Mommy likes it. And you can have a cell phone when you are older. Btw, they are both my cologne/aftershave testers. Every morning before I leave for the office, they either give me the thumbs up or thumbs down. They both have a very sophisticated sense of smell. This is my girls on the driving range. I have a sneaking suspicion they enjoy driving the golf cart more than playing golf.
Reminds me to get the video camera ready. First day of school Vols 6 and 4 are in the works. Don't forget your camera!
Johnnie: Your 8 y/o's set up is flawless. Shell be a killer player for sure. Im trying to get Camille in the game but she has very little patience (just like me, Im afraid). Any tips you have to keep the younguns interested without getting bored ??
Take her to the range. Not too much instruction at first, just let her whack away. A couple of well-placed pointers followed by a little mini golf. If you take her out on a course, I just let my girls tee up every shot, even in the fairway. I find small doses keeps them interested. Just like us big guys, when they hit a pure shot, it feels good and they want to do it again. My girls received a little instruction at their summer camp but not that much. Of course if you want to go the whole enchilada, then lessons. As you know with anything regarding kids Rick, they either want to do it or they don't. My credo is if they like something, encourage it, nurture it. If they don't, that's ok too. btw, the 10 year old's form is not too shabby (sorry, proud dad here)
