I have a good friend at the church who recently moved up north to Washington. He knew I was into the whole 'wet-shaving' thing and more recently had gotten into restoring straights. I just got an email from him telling me to expect a package. He said he knows how much I like razors ( he still uses a cartridge), and so wanted to bless me with a little surprise. He ventured into a local antique store, saw some straight razors at the counter, and not knowing much about them…. decided to buy the lot! THIS is a photo he took in the store of what he is sending me… I see a Böker, a Dubl Duck Goldenedge, a Spike, …not sure what else. The most expensive was only $38... Christmas in August! Now I gotta get him hooked.
I am going to assume they each may need a little help before being ready to use. I won't know for sure until I see them in person. That'd certainly be a way to whet his appetite on wet-shaving. In the past, he considered the whole wet-shaving process too much work (heard that before?). The thought of ever using straight razors was simply something he never considered. Now if I were up in Washington….
You might want to put one back in working order and send it his way just in case he ever gets the itch.
I told him I would be sending one back to him all prettied up! He actually said he'd like that….so you're right, Dale— ya never know where the itch will come from.
Right on! On a side note, I have a Sheaffer fountain pen that has what looks to be the same celluloid pattern as that top razor in your photo. Great pen too, and the pattern tends to get a lot of attention. That's some blessing, alright!
