My current daily brush rotation is only 4 as I'm living in a very tight space. 1. Semogue SOC 2 Band Badger in Ash Wood 24/53mm (received a new brush) 2. Semogue SOC 2 Band Badger in Cherry Wood 24/53mm 3. Whipped Dog Silvertip in Resin Handle 24/48mm 4. Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger in Tall Resin Handle 24/50mm And all my other brushes are put away clean which I've used them, and when I move into a bigger unit I'll start using them which I really had to get them something special just for me which are:- 5. RazoRock Plissoft Synthetic 24/57mm 6. Semogue 620 21/50mm 7. Semogue 830 22/55mm 8. Semogue 1800 22/55mm 9. Semogue SOC Boar 24/57mm 10. Semogue Special Edition 2013 Silvertip 24/48mm 11. Simpson Duke 3 Best Badger 23/48mm 12. Simpson Berkeley 46 Best Badger 20/45mm 13. Simpson Chubby 2 Best Badger 27/50mm 14. Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic Badger v2.0 fiber 27/52mm (IF I go away overseas again this is the brush I take with me)
I have a simple rotation of brushes, 3 Semogue BC Mistura and two Semogue BC Texugo. I picked most of them up used on the cheap and am a happy camper.
Ever since I got one of those fancy new (and super inexpensive) synthetic brushes, I haven't used anything else let alone rotated anything in or out.
I only use a Plisson Synthetic. To rotate would mean that on some days I would be choosing second best. I don't do that. ☺
Sorry to divert off the topic, but can you share the differences between the WD's and which you prefer? My current rotation is: Duke 3 in best Semogue 1800 RazoRock Disruptor Semogue 820 WD 24mm synthetic Semogue 2000 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have four that I use regularly. With hard soaps two Omega boars, a #10098 & a #20248. Soft soaps and creams a Vulfix 660S Medium Super Badger. Still trying to decide if there are any limitations on a synthetic I'm enjoying from The Body Shop. I don't know who makes the knot, but I like it.
@jwr3265 well I'll be honest with you and my most deepest and favorite brush is the Whipped Dog High Mountain Badger in Tall Resin Handle 24/50mm see picture below FYI, I still love the Whipped Dog Silvertip in Resin Handle 24/48mm nothing wrong with it both WD are fantastic for face and bowl lather you can't go wrong with both as Larry is fantastic because he knows what I'm looking when I ask him before making an order.
I only own 3. A 10 dollar badger brush from Amazon, the Proraso/Omega boar brush, and I just got a Semogue 830 boar brush 2 days ago. I really really love the Semogue and probably won't use the other two anymore...maybe the badger if I use a cream.
I had a bad case of BAD when I got back into DE shaving, but that is completely gone. Zero urge for another brush. Not pictured is a Floppy, Scritchy Pure Badger Brush my son gave me for my birthday last year. No RAD either (any longer...) These days I have to control my desire to purchase soaps and fragrances. From L-R: Semogue BC Mistura Semogue SOC Boar Simpson M6 Manchurian Simpson CH3 Manchurian Simpson CH1 Super Badger Simpson CH2 Synthetic Simpson Wee Scot (Used to be my travel brush, but the synthetic has replaced it) Simpson CH2 SiLVERTiP
My rotation or rather list of brushes that see regular duty If I could keep only one it is the Vulfix 377 in silvertip. If I was given 3 as an option I would include the Paladin and Shavemac but I would miss the Thater. Kent BK4 – lovely floppy super soft tips Shavemac 2 band – definitely a favorite, dense and springy with soft tips. Excellent flow Simpson Chubby – tiny knot but super dense and soft Simpson Commodore – hair as soft as my “supers” Simpson Polo 8 – big handle sits comfortably in hand with super tips Vulfix 377 Silvertip – favorite brush. Price was great, tips are soft, brush is dense and almost floppy, excellent flow Brad Sears 30mm Hive – price and handle are tops. Knot is quite good almost floppy and super soft Kent BK8 – bigger version of the BK4, awesome for three pass Sunday shaves with tons of cream capacity. Simpson Chubby 2 - much bigger version of the chubby 1, more dense not as soft great spring, bad flow Thater 26mm – overall a fantastic brush value. Soft, dense and good flow with a good handle Vulfix 2235 silvertip – not as nice as the 377 but a good brush at a fantastic price Vie Long Bee Hive – this one is growing on me after 40 or so uses. Prickly in the beginning but with painting strokes super soft. Bad flow VP LeonHardy – tall brush knot with excellent flow and unusual springiness Semogue 830 – boar. Not bad, not a favorite Epsilon LE 2 band – prickly ,scritchy super dense brush bad flow think about selling every time it gets used. Brad Sears Fat Arley Manchurian – great price, a little scritchy, monster handle Paladin PK47 2 band – absolutely fanatastic brush. Great handle and great soft and springy knot. Rooney 23 mm – another floppy super soft brush VP LeonHardy 2 band – Jury is out on this one, good price just can’t love it or hate it for some reason.
Not in any order of use, the first brush is a Frank Shaving Badger. Second is a Frank Shaving 26mm Synthetic knot which I used an aluminum flashlight head for a handle (GW Brush because of a quarter used behind the lens to cover the LED emitter). Third is a Maggards 22mm Synthetic knot on a cut down flashlight body (from the same flashlight as the #2 brush). Fourth is a 23mm Badger knot on a stainless steel E-cig Mod body with a cut down rubber grip from another flashlight. Fifth is a Frank Shaving 20mm Synthetic brush on a resin handle. Sixth is a Boar brush knot from the first brush I used when wet shaving. I really didn't care for the original handle shape, but I like the brush knot. So two days ago, I removed the Badger brush knot from this handle, also from a cut down flashlight, and transplanted the Boar knot onto this handle.
@SpeedyPC...thanks for your input. I'll probably take your advice. I'm on a tear...just bought a RV Finest 2-band and a Simpson M6 Manchurian off of BST....I'll have to wait a bit...
No pics at the moment, but I have 3 Semogue boars, 1 VDH boar, 1 Maggards 24mm synthetic and 1 Stirling 22mm synthetic. I use a different one every day. Funny thing is I know the nuances of each and they're all good!
