I just started DE shaving a month ago and really like it so far. I currently have AOS sandalwood and TOBS almond. I like both. The sandalwood is stronger and lingers with me for most of the day while the almond seems more subtle and disappears quickly. I'm currently looking for a cream that brings back memories and scent of an old fashioned barbershop. What would you recommend? Thanks. Mike
I too love the barbershop scent. Mama Bear - Ye Olde Barbershoppe has that barber shop scent. Stirling - Barbershop. A vendor on ebay SB Tanning sells 2 types of Love My Skin; 1920's Barbershop & Barbershop. All great soaps with great barbershop scent. A/S you have Clubman and Canoe............. Clubman shave cream is also available in a can.
Smell is such a unique thing tied to our memories, I hesitate to recommend anything because who knows if it's your old fashioned barbershop memory, you know? Aside from that though, I tend to think of any 'clean' scent as being a barbershop scent. Clean meaning not a discernible scent (sandalwood, citrus, etc.) and not a general soap scent. In that category I'd recommend Barbon cream, Tabac Soap, TOBS: St. James, Eton College and Mr. Taylor. Any of those are going to be a barbershop type scent and give you one dandy shave.
I agree with Mr Shaverman, YMMV. First thing I thought of when I read this was PORASSO green, and Arko. They both have a very clean and "BARBER SHOP" scent. But they may not for you. It's a tough question.
You can find a barber shop scented cream or soap at The Shave Den Shop. I personally haven't tried it, but plan to order it soon.
Barrister and Mann Seville is a great soap with a barber scent to me. Truefitt and Hill Grafton cream, also IMO, great barbershop scent I agree everyone's opinion of scent is different. Try samplers from TSD or Maggards. You'll find one that smells like grandpa for sure.
If it can be a "Croap", then I would suggest Catie's Bubbles Tonsorial Parlour and CRSW American Barbershop. I have both and love their scents.
I'd say Barbasol and Clubman creams. Might add Gillette Foamy Barbershop-fresh, but I understand those are rapidly dissappearing.
Erasmic, as well as the discontinued Noxzema cream smell very barbershoppy to me. So does Proraso Green in some ways.
Clubman has a shaving cream-people say it isn't as good now as it once was, but it still has the old-school barbershop feeling(as do most of Clubman's products).
Again barbershop scent is very subjective. I have several soaps that are called"barbershop". I would say Proraso Blue fits the general category. A clean scent with a hint of anise/licorice, with exceptional post shave qualities. It pairs nicely with Florida Water as an aftershave.
TOBS Mr Taylors Shaving Cream reminds me of a Barbershop for the british high society Rustic, earthy, wild western version in my opinion: Chiseled Face Ghost Town Barber
I've used Mr Taylor earlier this year and really liked it. I would buy it again someday but there are just so many other creams I would like to try.
