A Gillette adjustable is on the way to me. The seller says the handle is 4 inches long and black. The ID on it is P2. Hopefully I'll learn proper technique with this one. My current Gillette non adj with blue tip is just not cuttin' it, pardon the probably oft used pun.
that would be a long handled super adjustable, a tremendously great razor, probably my favorite - may be why I have 3 of them a couple of things to keep in mind, many gillette adjustables suffer from a common issue that's not a big deal, but something to keep in mind, and that over time the head can favor one side over the other...be it from being dropped or mishandled, or just the constant opening and closing for a 40 year old piece of metal. It can easily be rectified, just take not of the blade gap from side to side as you at the wider sides of the razor when you get it. it's fairly common recommendation to start at setting of 3 on adjustables and work your way up and down from there to find your preference, but start where ever you feel like really, though 3 is a pretty good middle ground place to start
I think 3 is fairly mild. Overall my view on settings: 1 - Uselessly mild 2- Extremely mild 3- mild 4- Moderate 5- Slighly agressive 6+ Very agressive I really don't understand those who use a 1 or higher than 6. 7-9 actually feel the same as 6 to me. I typically use a setting of 3 for head shaving and 4 for face shaving, but will go up or down a setting for a few blades. Hint: feathers are counter-intuitive and work better at more agressive settings, at least for me.
Looks like a lot of good advice and information. The only things that I would add are: 1) The P2 means that it was made in the 2nd quarter of 1969 and 2) the super adjustables tend to be one setting milder than a Fat Boy or Slim, so a 4 on this razor is like a 3 on the Fat Boy/Slim.
My unedumacated guess would be: It can easily be rectified, just take note of the blade gap from side to side as you look at the wider sides of the razor when you get it. My guess is hi-lighted in red. Prolly wrong.
