Someone asked me with this question recently. I remember long ago having a shower radio. That didn't last too long. Now I cherish the silence of the morning. Maybe it's a Geezer Thing? I try to begin by counting breaths for several minutes. I listen to the sound of my brush whipping up lather in my bowl, the sound of running water is soothing especially while inhaling the scent of my shave soap. The sweet sound of my razor mowing down row after stinking row of those mangy whiskers. I also listen to and am aware of my stream of thoughts, allowing them to arise and pass away without interference. This is a time to meditate while developing a plan for the day. I love shaving every dang day.
It really depends on my mood. Country music, if I play tunes. I'm finding I like to let my imagination wonder. If using a vintage razor, who used it? where were they from?
I put the radio on whenever I'm doing my ablutions, shaving or not. I've got radios like some of you have razors, so in the bathroom I have Tecsun PL-660 Shortwave/AM/FM radio. It sits on top of the medicine cabinet, out of the way. It's a great radio.
Generally, I listen to my Parker scything down my stubble. On the weekend I play "Orion" by Metallica. May sound weird, but for some reason that song has always allowed me to enter my zen like free streaming consciousness state.
Definately not "Head Banging" music. Maybe some Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Beatles, John Fogerty, something along those lines.
Im more of the jazz during shaving, it calms me down. The other I put some classical isaac stern, that was good too. Hmmm this coming from a raver.
I would try listening to Rick Wakeman "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" but I feel like conducting too much. It's pretty "orchestral" and Deep & Meaningful", just waving my arms around while they have razors in them ..............makes me think twice.
I tried listening to music while I shaved, but I realized I missed the auditory feedback from the shave itself by doing that. Same reason I used to sit absolutely still when I would go deer or turkey hunting... You want to be able to hear things that are coming up behind you. Whether that's a deer, or a miscalculated swipe of a sharp blade.
I would like to listen to George Strait but my wife is usually in the bathroom at the same time and is talking to me
I used to listen to electronic music, I'm still in that phase lol Now I don't listen to any music while I shave. I've gotten quicker at it and I've actually started to enjoy listening to the hairs getting cut.
