What is a good pipe in the $60-$80 range

    Oh, I don't know. I could puff up half a bowl
    And get it hot and then clean it out. Sure, it's usually a relaxing easy smoke but you can get a fix if you need it.

    I always read it was best for breaking the pipe in and developing the cake that one should smoke the entire bowl.

    There is much debate on that topic...I have had success starting pipes a few different ways. I think the material used to construct the pipe matters during the break in period. Meerschaum, clay, Brylon and the like really have no break in. The biggest tip I have for a new smoker is get more than one pipe, rotate pipes and let each pipe rest for a day or two and dry between uses...soggy pipes are nasty pipes.
