I've only used a couple of sandalwood soaps. I really like TOBS sandalwood, but I find Captain's Choice smells more like the sandalwood comb I own. Both are great performers.

Stirling Sandalwood is a very nice straight sandalwood scent, IMO. Performance is typically great Stirling, so it's got the lather covered!

The first reply to this thread, and quite possibly the best.

Proraso Red is flat-out superb soap and the scent is intoxicatingly luxurious.

    The soap or the cream?

I heard that the three T have good creams but poor soaps. Is it true?

Soap. Not true. Sounds like newbies have been writing about soap again.

Scent-wise I'd say Proraso Red. Lather and skincare-wise, JoAnna's got the best one.

Truth. I had a lot of problems with soap starting out. I switched to creams exclusively for a long time, blaming my water, the soaps, etc. When I joined here, I got in on the soap box pass, and found that I had zero issues using soaps of any formula. Once again, technique trumps tools!

I couldn't agree more. The passaround box was a great learning experience. It definitely helped my technique and got me to really learn how to read the lather. And of course it gave me the opportunity to try scents and vendors I doubt I would have otherwise. Really great experience.

Funny enough I more or less started with soaps and have always had better results with soap. I usually have to bowl Lather creams to get the lather right whereas soaps are great for face lathering. (My personal preference)

I always get a kick when newbies review stuff like Stirling.
