Finished building lego Rivendel together with SWMBO and my daughter. Alas, we'll have to break it down and send it back next week because it's a hired set.

    Dankjewel!

My daughter knew, as did my son who rented the Taj Mahal set last winter.

We got a large box, closed with tie-wraps by mail last Friday evening. 14 days later it needs to be sent back. As my daughter rented the set I have no idea about the price.

I thought I might try hunting during Black powder season this year, so I pulled out my old .50 Hawken black powder rifle yesterday and fired it a few times. Had a glitch in the set-triger lock work, so I had to fix that. It works great now! I also learned that 30-year-old percussion caps don't work very well. maybe they got damp or something. Guess I oughta get some new ones.

This past weekend I took my 85 yr old father to the gun range. I re-taught him how to shoot a 1911 pistol, that was his fathers. It was scary, with his Alzheimer's. Well, he had fun, but my nerves were a wreck after that outing. He had for gotten almost all gun safety.
The weekend prior, I took my 17 yr old daughter to the gun range. She has been bugging me for a month, to learn how to shoot an AR-15. At about 25 yards, she started with a 1 foot grouping. Within an hour, it was around 1 inch. Good enough for a first try with peep sights.
Me, I sighted in an AR-15 in .300 Blackout I had built for me, a couple of months ago. It's now punching a 1/2 inch group at 50 yards with peep sights.

That's awesome. I built a T/C .50 cal Hawkins, around 35 years ago. I used to go to Rendezvous competitions with it. I still have it tucked away in the safe. I guess its time to break it out and shoot a few rounds.

Dunno what was wrong with my "set trigger." I took it all apart, cleaned it, lubed everything, checked clearances, and reassembled it, and it worked fine. A good cleaning and lube fixed it! The Hawken 50 caliber percussion rifle is a lot of fun to shoot! Surprisingly accurate, too!

    Hey Sara:
    Was it a .45 "Long" Colt (cowboy revolver) or a .45 ACP (like a 1911 G.I. pistol)?
They're both fun, I reckon, but I prefer the old cowboy style revolvers. I got a friend who has the automatic pistol kind of 45, but it's too darned newfangled for me!

I can’t hit the broad side of a barn with a revolver. It was an Kimber semi-auto.

    Ooo! Fancy and modern!
I'm sure it's got better sights than an old Colt Single Action Army Peacemaker, too!

Sometimes over tightening screws on those old style muzzleloaders cause the hammers and triggers to malfunction.

Had to do some "rust remover" followed by a lot of sanding, then some Bondo on my old '87 SJ413's rear fender. After it dries, I'll have to do more sanding, then paint. It's been a lot of years since I've done body work on a rusty old vehicle. It was kind of fun, and made me feel like a kid again!

I made a leather belt & holster for Lumbar Jack’s toy pistol. He plans to wear it for Roy Rogers’ birthday -11/5

Here is Jack, proudly sporting his holster, for Roy’s birthday. No beer to celebrate, though; alcohol goes right through him.

My dad is also 85. I took him to the gun shop a few weeks ago because he wanted one of those easy rack 9s that are out now. He's handled my Tisas 1911 clone (excellent pistol for the price) but doesn't want to try to shoot something that big anymore. I told him his 9 will have more snap so he's thinking about it.
