What Phrases or Words Irritate You?

    While we're on the subject.. 'funest'. I mean is funest really a word. Though there seems to be some sort of actual definition out there for the vocabulary abomination, there are lots words in the English language to choose from..do we really need funest..cheez now the spell check thinks it should be spelled with two n's.:angry032::angry032:

    I am generally annoyed at the use of "fun" as an adjective, rather than a noun, as in "The carnival was so fun."

    Thats gettin' down to the nitty- gritty. Really fun can't be a describing word?
    If I knew another language, I'd quit using this one based on this point alone.

    its dutch for nit picker. But the literal trans is much more um.... colorful.

    Note the correct use of "infer". Using "imply" when "infer" should be used is another linguistic irritant.

    oh yes...another,. "He/she WENT MISSING". I mean, did the person missing say "See ya in a while, fellas, I think I'll go missing". What is wrong with "he/she DISSAPPEARED?(sp)
