Don't know about you guys, but I followed the "American Idol" show through the spring. I actually wanted Melinda to win, not realizing the show really wasn't about who has the best talent.

Aside from that, when I discovered that the Idol Tour was coming to the Savemart Center at Fresno State, I asked my wife to pick up some tickets for us, since she works on campus.

The day she went to pick up tickets, she called me at home and asked if I was sure I wanted to go. She will sometimes ask for confirmation from me, especially if she thinks I either have my head up my ass, or, thinks I may be unaware of all the facts... which goes back to the first reason she may ask for confirmation.

To her query, I had said, "Sure." Then she asked me whether she should pay through our checking account or our savings account. "Huh", I'm thinking. "The $170.00 for the tickets. How do you want me to pay for it?"

    $170.00?

Are you friggin' kidding me? With a shadow of disappointment, I told her to cancel the plans. I was bummed, but then I got pissed off! $170 bucks for a couple of hours of entertainment, and then what do I have? A sore ass from sitting in the bleachers...

I don't think so. Ain't no way I'd pay $170 to see anybody in the entire universe unless it brought them back to life for those couple hours. And I'd make sure I got several copies of their signature so I could sell them on eBay to get my money back.

What kind of numbskull shells out money like that, anyway?

We don't have a lot going on in this little college town. But we have about the sixth or seventh-largest on-campus facility in the country at 81,000 plus seats (Death Valley, AKA Memorial Stadium). A big game can get about 86,000 standing room.

So we have had a few concerts through here...rock (the Stones), country (George Strait) and so forth. But we also get the garage band/college band stuff. I've been to a few concerts, but I never got to some of the bigger ones, because I just won't pay those kinda prices. Never have been much of a concert goer anyways, though.

I think I paid $75+ to see the Stones about 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure that was the last concert I saw. Tickets for popular shows routinely run in the hundreds of dollars now. Ridiculous.

Love the new avatar Bill! :rofl

Forget it. I'm now a certified concert and sport venue cheapskate. I refuse to buy tickets. Even things like the circus and the Disney Ice shows are out of control. $8.00 for a book, $8.00-$9.00 for a first run movie and $.99 for a song. That is all I'm usually willing to pay anymore. The performers are just not worth it.

    What I pay??

I pay $3.00 TO $5.00 per game to see my son play football and have the best seat in the stadium.
