I was asked to bring something interesting in the drink category. I thought this to be especially appropriate due to the fact that back around 1776 or so, there was comparatively little bourbon whiskey available anywhere in the USA. Much more common was rye whiskey. For those who might be interested, Beam isn't 100% rye. It's actually only 51% rye, the rest is corn and other grains, which makes the "spice" note a bit less pronounced than that of the 90+ percent Rye Whiskeys that are making a comeback nowadays. But I've found it to provide a good introduction to those who have yet to sample such a fine and historical spirit. It seems to me a shame that so many US citizens have yet to try a drink once so prevalent in our not too distant past. To a small degree, I hope to remedy that today. I prefer my Rye mostly in it's non-diluted form, but to those who aren't as appreciative of such a simple thing, a bit of this in some cold apple cider is quite nice. Please folks, if you drink today, let a non-drinker do the driving! I bid each of you participating a safe and happy Independence Day!
We are going to a long time friends house. They live in a retirement community. They invited us over for some kind of Pot-Luck Bar-BQ. I have known him all of my life. He's like a relative. His wife called and said me and Evelyn were the only family they have. So to think about it they are right on the nail head. They are the only Family we have also.
It's unfortunate, but true. However, to the best of my knowledge Beam Rye is made from only US grown grains, and distilled in Clermont, Kentucky.
A grilled chicken breast livens up the salad and adds a nice lean protein. I struggle with salads at times, but have convinced myself that they are not terrible.
You guys are making me hungry. We're driving my wife's Impala to a Scrappers minor league baseball game where we're having picnic food. (hotdogs, apple pie). "Baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and Chevrolet"...hey I think I heard a song like that somewhere!
A smoked ham I found buried in the chest freezer (let's just say it could attend elementary school) with some green beans and welsh onions given me by my neighbor.
