Skin stretching. Run damp fingers on an Alum block to allow your fingers to hold soapy skin. Absolute game changer for my shaves.

Other than that how's it working out? ;)

I'd like to say YTaRMV or "your technique and results may vary", but it's hard for new converts to believe that most of the results aren't dependent upon the equipment choice.

It is kinda like golf. If I just buy the latest driver then the ball will stay in the fairway.

Your swing hitch will disappear too, as soon as you get a more expensive driver...

When I was at Fort Bragg and learning how to set demolition charges - the instructor gave me some advice which I think applies to DE shaving as well. He said: "Pay attention to what you're doing and don't kill yourself".

I agree mostly. My emphasis is mostly on preference. In the beginning I attributed my results to a learning curve, but I simply didn't like brushes, soaps and even razor heads( especially Gillette) that many raved about. Conversely, I liked soaps, brushes, and razors that many reviews I read ,didn't. Additionally saying any razor will work( or more accurately achieve the results I want) is like saying one size fits all, when one size fits most is more accurate. I read how awful boar brushes, OCMM, and the r41 were; when I tried them they were what I wanted and needed. ( My beard is on the extreme end of coarse.) That said, I do agree that blaming the equipment so to speak , is an easy trap to fall into starting out.

Best advice I ever received applies to about everything in life. "Keep at it". "It takes a little while to develop into an expert at anything and everything". "No one is born with the skill". "You have to Learn, practice and practice makes perfect."

This reminds me, my father used to say your pantlegs aren't big enough if you can't put your pants on over your shoes, so for him it was shoes first then pants.
