Now that I've ordered a Semogue 1520 brush, I'd like to learn the proper pronunciation of the company's name. In my head I've been saying sem-OGUE, with a sem- that rhymes with "gem" and an -ogue that rhymes with "rogue." I listened carefully to the news video from Semogue's factory, but could not find a word like this. I don't know the Portuguese language, but it sounds a bit to me like Russian, with many sh sounds that the other Romance languages don't have. Could a native speaker guide me to say "Semogue" correctly?
Teiste, one of our Spanish speaking members once said that the correct pronunciation was to say it as "Smog". Let me see if I can find the post to be sure.

While i'm not positive.... every spanish word that I know with a g that is followed by a vowel, makes the g a "hard g". Even with that, i'm not sure if it should end with gue (rhymes with q), or if it's a gway sound. By far, i'm no expert, i'm just taking some educated guesses. With it being a name, anything could be possible.
I love talking on the phone with fellow wetshavers. Pronunciation of these words is fun to hear from person to person. I say sem o goo goo. Yes, I know it's not right, but it's fun.

EM as in enter when anywhere except at the end of a word O as in look when it is an unstressed vowel GU as in game when before a, o, u E as in make when unstressed In conclusion, I have no idea.
I'm fluent in Spanish, and I can understand Portuguese if it's spoken slowly, but I find it a very difficult language to learn. Spanish seemed much easier for me to learn.

That kinda ruins the brush for me. Sounds like a designer making an ironic fragrance. I liked it better in my head when it sounded Old country and foreign. Like something the Hemingway shaved with. Not... smog. It's like finding out that my favorite shave cream is actually pronounced Pond Scum, or barf, or worse. But on a positive note they are gorgeous brushes. C. S. Budzi

Yes, you were right! You could always linger a bit on the e and make it sem-OG. I think we would be excused since it's not our native language. I ordered my brush on Sunday, having read so many positive comments from Semogue owners here.
No sooner said than done. What is it they say about wishing in one hand and something in the other? The brushes just came through the door. How nice is that?
