I only have one synthetic which is a Plissoft 26mm Monster. I purchased that sweetheart a year ago from Italian Barber and it's made me just about forget about my other brushes. What other synthetics would you guys say are good?
i have the razorock bruce standard size plissoft and the razorock metal handle(trailer hitch ball) silver tip plissoft brushes.love them both.
I have four 1) ll'occitaine plisson (gen 3) 2)FS pur-tech (gen 4) 3)Kent infinity silvertex (gen3) 4)Ever-Ready 500-2n (gen1) So far, i like them in that order. But I've had very little use with 4, and it is not a full synthetic (so it cheats, being not fully synthetic). @GDCarrington had quite a bit of information about them. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-four-generations-of-synthetic-fibers-clarifications.37568/
I have a few, but right now it would be a Frank Shaving 26mm on my flashlight head "GW" Brush. But in a couple of weeks, I think this will change and will post it then.
APShaveCo Tuxedo in a B-400 handle & a Maggards synthetic in a JR handle. Both serve well. I have an unmounted knot labeled Sunrise that I think is another Maggards. Working on an APShaveCo Cashmere soon.
I might buy one of the Stirling 26mm synthetics in the future. From what I understand they're very similar to these Plissofts and they also don't need any breaking in.
Synthetic fiber has really improved in the last couple of years, my favorite two are the Tuxedo and Game Changer. RazoRock has a great valued Game Changer for like $14. It's the 400.
Jeff, I only have two synthetic brushes at the moment. One is the 22mm Stirling and the other is a 24mm Maggards. I love them both, but the Maggards is a bit floppy for me. I like the Stirling as it has more backbone. Both are very good.
I have used a number of the years. Started with the original Plisson (donor for a custom handle) Then: Muhle STF XL = too springy Razorock Plissoft: Disruptor 22mm Bruce 24mm Monster 26mm (this became a donor for a R400) Finally: APShaveco Tuxedo 24-25mm At this point the Disruptor is the best performer. Although the Tuxedo and Monster have nice face feel = they tend to be lather hogs.
My first Plissoft was the monster. I only use it now with large pucks as it just so huge. If you squeeze out the lather it's the best. I ended up going with a smaller one.
I like all of mine except for the first ones I got. They were soft but too stiff to be of any use. They were Pur Tech knots I got from Virginia Sheng. All the natural hair knots I got from VS are great. I just did not like the Pur Tech knots. I have Maggard, Sunrise, Game Changer, and Tuxedo brushes, and they are all good. My latest is the 26mm Maggard Black & White which I have not tried yet, but I am eager to try.
I have 8 right now, and I've tried 3 others that I've passed along to friends. I prefer them with almost no scritch, and a tad on the floppy side. My favorite after only a couple of uses is pictured at the bottom. Another vote for the Razorock 400 Plisson Noir. Had mine for about a month, it's a great brush and a steal at the price. Not everyone likes the styling, or the colour, of the handle though.
I also like my Razo Rock 400 24mm knot. I have only had it a few weeks now and it's a great brush (the 400 handle design is my all time favorite). I also like my Razo Rock plisssoft Italian handle a lot to. Another great brush is the Crown King 400 with there synthetic 24mm knot ( it came with two types of synthetic knots included). I like all of my synthetic knot brushes to be honest. I don't even use my Boar or Badger brushes anymore. Happy Shaves All, Bill G
In no particular order, mine are: Shave Revolution Evolution Plisson/L'Occitane Whipped Dog Maggard JR #85. RazoRock Plissoft I have several others that don't get used much, mostly because they're to dense for me. They are like using a soft candle against my face, don't like that.
I must buy myself another good synthetic so my Plissoft Monster will have some company! Madame says "Cheri, what about that big Turkish barbershop brush you have?" I told her "I haven't forgotten about it!"
