When it comes to razors or brushes...do you have a white whale you are still chasing...and that keeps eluding you...? For me, it used to be the Barbasol Floating head but I harpooned it several months ago. Nowadays it's a nice Rubberset 400-3 that I'd fit with the best badger my budget would allow. It's a white whale for me because they go for insane money these days ($100+). How about your whale?
Too funny. That barbasol floating head is at the top of my list right now as well. I think it's on the top of a lot of people's lists which shows in the prices they are going for. I have all the brushes I could possibly want. I would love a mint Damaskene or 1912 that I could shave with!
For me it is a Feather blade. When I use one I look like I came in on the short end of a knife fight. I have no problems with my other blades such as Astras, Personna Reds, Derbys, Gillette Yellow/Blues, Bluebirds, etc. I have about three packs of the Feathers and pass them along to my son when he needs blades.
For me it is the Schick Injector; red, white and blue. Or it is called the Championship Schick. I had one when I was much younger and it was in my bag and the airline lost my bag. Dave
A nice straight razor kit. With a solid str8 and a good strop...too much green papers for my pocket right now.
I just snagged my Moby last Saturday cost me $38. Was advertised as "Vintage Gillette Razor" with awful pictures but it looked like it would clean up and it did. Almost mint, no plating loss a few small scratches and I am over the moon. T
Like that's gonna happen, HAHAHAHA, really I am resisting...I'm feeling weaker, oh no--I cannot control the urge to hunt...stay posted.
So far the only thing I have found elusive is my birth year razor, a 67 Gillette black handle Super Speed. It attained white whale status when I decided that I want one in really good condition, without letting myself get fleeced on EBAY. At the end of the day, it's a 46 year old razor of no special significance to collectors. Not paying $40 to $50 for one if I can help it...
Well I did manage to pick up a comparably-sized vintage W&B recently—it is in need of a little TLC, but a nice hunk of steel nonetheless. Pics coming when I have it in hand.
