A couple of weeks ago I went to Macau for some R&R and I forgot to pack a shave stick. Major crisis, I could not find any shave soap in Macau but I came across a L'Occitane store. When I started wet shaving I bought their Cade shaving soap and it smelled wonderful but... the lather was not slick there was little cushion nor protection. Basically I got terrible shaves. I also tried a sample of their cream with similar results. The store only carried the cream and the label was different than I remembered plus it came in tin. I was reluctant to spend the money but the thought of using canned shaving cream was more than I could bear so I went for it. Back in the hotel I was surprised how well it worked, fantastic lather, cushion, slickness and great aftershave feel. For three days in Macau it performed awesome. I was curious how it would perform when I got home. I started with my forgiving DEs and L'Occitane performed great so on to the next test. I tried it with my 2011 R41, I only use my top software with this razor, I need all the protection and slickness I can get. Once again a winner. To the final test. Today I tried it with a straight, this is my ultimate test for software. Just one nick due to operator error otherwise the shave went very well. It passed the final test and has no entered my pantheon of shave soaps and creams. I always enjoyed the Cade scent, I guess it was fate I forgot to pack a shave stick. Even my back emergency Arko stick was missing from travel kit. Sometimes reformulated is better.
How long ago was it that you first started wet shaving & first tried their products? For the quality, I think a puck of Cade soap is one of the best deals out there.
I have been wet shaving for 3 years and bought my puck Cade soap about 2 1/2 years ago. When a product does not work for me I put it away for 6 months and then try it again, the repeat if it does not work. I still have that puck and it still doesn't work for me. I heard the soap was reformulated too so I hope I get the chance to try it. The store I was at in Macau didn't have the soap, just the cream. The cream performs up there with Castle Forbes (I still like CF just a little better).
I just picked up some of the cream last week myself. I like it. The scent is great, and I like the performance, too.
I have a tub of Cade Rich Shaving cream Purchased spring 2015. It produces a very thick and creamy lather that provides great cushion.
I'd say the new formulation of Cade soap is good stuff, better than the old, IMO. I think my puck cost around $13.
