For a while iKon was all the rage. Is Greg still making razors ? The OC iKon with Bulldog handle is one of the most beautiful I own. (sadly. not the best shaver for me) I was checking out the iKon website and the selection is very limited and most are out of stock. The newer head design is not very traditional and doesn't appeal to me. And plus, the prices have sky rocketed. I paid like 55 bucks for my numbered limited edition stainless OC bulldog. But, it seems iKon has strayed away from producing stainless razors at affordable prices. Anyone know what is going on with iKon ?
Supply and demand. If the market will bear it, they can charge what they want. That being said, they make their razors in small lots and they are probably working a batch through the pipeline to get ready for Christmas. I also have heard rumbles about them developing a slant, so if they are concentrating on designing that, it's natural to assume they would let some other stuff slide. iKon is also facing stiff competition from Weber and Tradere, so that might have impacted his business as well.
He also closed his ebay account. Quite honestly, the handle was nice and I didn't feel terrible paying $58 for my razor even if the shave was marginal, but approaching $200 for a Pils knock-off. No thanks.
I wouldn't call them ugly(his BullDogs look just like the Weber,I'm going to get if THEY ever come back in stock ) I would call them Overpriced however. And I personaly didn't find that open comb/straight bar combo that appealing. One of them(Weber,iKon,Tradere, "ANYONE") NEEDS to make an affordable SS BullDog "Barberpole handle" that would be SWEET, especially for Christmas.
You lucky person this is the razor I have tried and tried to get my hands on with no luck what so ever
Greg promoted iKon as an affordable stainless option. Where did Greg go ? and where's those quality stainless razors at affordable price ? I've been waiting 2 years.........He hasn't delivered, what's up?
I have no inside information, but I suspect reality overwhelmed his good intentions. I don't think it's possible to produce stainless steel razors in small batches and keep the price under $100.
Greg has mentioned on other forums that he will have a new Open Comb with Rotbart Mond #15 style head and a New Standard Bar/Tech Style Head and a New OC Bulldog that should be available around the holidays. He has removed the images of the Mond #15 style head, but here are the other two. Open Comb Bull Dog DeLuxe. New Standard Comb Bulldog
I've been watching the stainless razor wars for a couple of years now and I must say that they don't hold much appeal for me, especially the price they're commanding for them. It's my understanding that the company Joe at Shaveabuck is working with Cadet Razors are working on a stainless model and that should be much cheaper.
Thanks, I need to visit the other boards more often. (but, It's hard to leave the Den when your old and set in your ways) I love Rotbart Mond razors, so this is some awesome news. I'm with you on the price issue. Truthfully, do I really need a razor that will be around for 300-500 years or more, I mean, i'm in my 40's. If lucky I'll live for another 30-40 years. But stainless razors are pretty.... Joe's a good shave guy and it would be awesome if he would offer an affordable stainless.. Let's hope it works out.
Not sure but I think Greg might be better off just sticking with a couple of standard models which he makes regularly available and maybe after a while, adding to his repertoire one new offering at a time. Personally I find all this exotic limited edition stuff a bit disconcerting...
