Shimming a razor that was never made to use the thicker blades? Be sure you soak them in bloom water and flip them often....just saying.

At the time the Red Tip was meant to be an extreme razor leaning towards aggression, just as the Blue was mild. Modifying towards the extreme in trimming facial hair could go the other way too.

Don’t forget to remove the wax dots.

Can someone point me to one of these mythical one pass BBS DE razors that supposedly exist. Since I switched over to DE shaving about 10 years ago I've never once run across one of these razors.

2013 Mühle R41 then probably my 2017 Fatip Piccolo. That’s my answer to the question but I always do a 2 pass shave with the grain (read: down) and very little buffing. Therefore, the two razors mentioned are used more for heavy lifting, like Monday mornings.

It was probably my Muhle R41. But it was also one of the most uncomfortable first passes with any razor I own. :) Now a days I always go for comfort over closeness. For me an irritation/nick free DFS is far more preferred than an uncomfortable BBS. So I use a German 37 slant on a BullDog handle and a Stahley shave head on one of my other heavy handles.:happy088:

I don't really find myself going for one pass BBS shaves. During the workweek, I'll just go for a one pass acceptable shave. Weekends, 2 or 3 passes for a closer shave. The only thing that will ever get BBS is my cheeks. Upper lip, chin, neck area, forget it.

Tough decision, but I guess it'll be my '48-'50 Gillette Aristocrat. As far as blades go, it can be a few, including Bolzano Superinox, Blue Bird Stainless and Personna Platinum (Israeli Red).

after thinking about it a little more i would say my flat plate aristocrat jr..close second the small head 60s flaretip rocket.. very efficient smooth razors..

R41 for me too. All day everyday. It has become a fantastic shaver for me. Easy and smooth

By studying the physiology of the skin, we see a detail.
True BBS is impossible to achieve in a single pass.
I mean a result that is perfectly smooth to the touch.
In every direction. That it is durable and comfortable.
Personally, I reach it every day in three passes.
Regardless of the type or model of razor.

My best option is a modern SE razor with guarded AC blades.

How do you define "pass" -- what would just one consist of?
