Just my 2 cents to folks using an adjustable for the first time (and you certainly have a great one to start with)

Shave 1 - set at 3, lock it and leave it for the entire shave, evaluate
Shave 2 - set at 4, lock it and leave it for the entire shave, evaluate
Shave 3 - set at 5, lock it and leave it...
Shave 4 - set at 6, lock it...
    Shave 5 - set at 7,...

Keep doing that until you find that setting that is just one notch too high, back it down one and now you've found the sweet spot.

Of course some like to go from wild to mild and will set at 9 for first pass, then dial down for each following pass.
Some like to go from tame to flame and will start low and dial up after each pass.

For me, I have mine locked at 6 for the entire shave. And I like it :D

Congratulations on the Slim...that was one of my first loves, and they are great!! I hope you enjoy it...Now watch Goldfinger, Thats the only razor I know of that was one off James Bond's gadgets...When he shaves on Goldfinger's airplane, he takes the TTO knob off and has a homeing device hidden in the handle...See your razor was also James Bond's choice ha,ha... After he shaves with it, Pussy Galore says, "You like close shaves don't you?",,,what a priceless advertisement, for your razor...

I figured I would set it between 1 and 3 and leave it there until I get a feel for it (and DE shaving in general). Once I'm able to shave consistently without any red stuff, then I can try to find my favorite setting.

Haha, I have a James Bond razor, Sweet! I think I will call her...Goldie.

  5. You did a good job cleaning the slim, you will now have to look for a blade sampler available almost on every wet shaving site ... not sure the unbranded blades will be good and several manufacturers are selling excellent blades .... Maybe one of the members here will be able to post you some of these branded modern blades .... Finding the right combo can take some time....but once you get it... shaving becomes a pleasure ....

Thank you sir. I honestly did not put much work into it. Scrubbing bubbles and a brush x2 and it looks great. I haven't hot soaked it or anything though.

I've been looking for a good sample pack since I purchased the razor, but there are so many to choose from. I don't want one with 10 or 15 of each blade, but I do one one with more than 1 of each. I'm thinking I may just go ahead and support TSD and get the 36 sample pack from here. It seems to have a good selection of blades, and they're all names I've seen on here before. The other packs I've been finding have a good number of brands, but I only recognize maybe 2 or 3 names.

I mastered #3 first and started moving around....When I could get great shaves with each setting my technique was really coming together....Funny, actually #1 was the most challenging....but there are some really sweet irritation free BBS's there aswell...Then you start that 3-6-9 combination or the opposite....

Yep...theres alot of fun to be had with that one....Heres a page of reviews on the Slim...one of them I wrote years ago...: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/gillette-slim-adjustable-m2.6544/
