I had this question in relation to the other thread...so figured I'd start a new one instead of hijacking that one. What do you ladies think of men with long hair. I cut my just about shoulder length hair after I accepted my internship last fall. Now that its over, and summer is rounding out, I'm growing it back out. My lady friends tell me I look much better with it short, but I really have to grow it back out. Kind of a principle thing. I feel like I sold out buy cutting it. So why all the negativity toward long haired men?
Hmmm...this one may be a little easier to answer, but I'm sure I'll catch heck for it. Look at most of the avatars that folks have used (Cary Grant, Alec Guiness over at TOP, etc.) and the "classic" ideal of the well-groomed, successful man is one with shorter hair. Sure, women love the "bad boy" with the long hair for a while, but eventually they want the picture of success and maturity, and that picture is of a man with shorter hair. For the same reason men seem to like longer hair (sexual maturity and feminity), women will eventually come around to liking a man with shorter hair (maturity, success, stability).
I was watching the David Chappelle show and they once had a segment where people on the street asked this Black-culture expert questions. An older White man asked, "Why do Black men cut their hair? They have such good hair." I immediately thought of how my White college friends would pat my hair when I had an afro. "Ohhh, it's so soft!" My hair is healthy and soft. Most importantly, I have no family history of baldness so I should enjoy my "good" hair for a very long time (I'm only 24). I cut my hair short because it's easier to manage and it looks neat. For me though, most women love it when my hair is longer. They like patting it and feeling the softness.
I don't know. I'm not that shallow. I like people for who they are, not what they look like, or the length of their hair. And I don't believe women care about hair length, as long as men are well groomed. My definition of well groomed does not include length of hair. Combed or brushed hair, yes, but not length.
This actually makes a very good point. Most guys with long(er) hair.. in fact probably the vast majority, do not "groom" their hair when they grow it out. It ends up looking frizzed, etc. and just plain bad. I think most guys think they're going for the "wind-tossed by the ocean air" look, when in reality it's more of the "just rolled out of bed and didn't bother to run a comb through my hair" look. Women with longer hair spend a lot more time on it than men with longer hair do, and that's for a reason. It seems like a lot of work to maintain and keep presentable.
Mullets for the win.....you can have the best of both worlds. All business up front.....party in the back.
It is rare to see a guy with long hair that keeps it nice. All too often it ends up in a greasy ponytail or just hangs there. It screams "lazy." It may look good on a guy or it may not. My comments on the "total picture" apply to men as well. Doesn't matter long or short. Does it fit with the rest of the picture. Personally, I keep mine short in the summer and longer in the winter. Purely because I am outside with the horses a lot and I like to be comfortable. My wife is indifferent to how long my hair is as long as it wasn't a bad cut.
When I was younger I had long hair. I finally cut it right before I got married and it was about down to my belt in length. I can say from experience that there are plenty of ladies out there that like long hair
rofl:rofl http://www.mulletsgalore.com/ I haven't looked at this site in probably 8 years. I can't believe its still up. Jordan
When I was in high school, I had long hair. My ears were totally covered and my bangs covered my eyes when it was straight. I have really wavy hair, so it flipped up in the front and sides and back. I went to basic training in 2009 and they shaved my head in less than 30 seconds. I've had either a buzz cut or fade for about 5 years. Looking back, my hair looked ridiculous. I looked like I came out of the 70's. I think I look more mature and professional with military regulation hair.
It's my experience there's a girl out there for every hair style a guy can come up with, whether it's on top or facial hair. But yeah, in general, they do prefer clean shaven short haired dudes Pick your wig!
My wife told me that if she had met me when I had long hair she wouldn't have considered me as an option. Maybe long hair is why high school was so lonely for me
My hair had gotten kind of long, over my ears. I got it cut the other day an coincidently sent my dog to the groomers for a cut. My daughter comes over today and comments on how young my dog Harley and I look with shorter hair. Guess I will be seeing my barber more often, Harley too.
It can work on younger guys (for me, anyway.) But there is little I find sillier than a guy with long hair & a receding hairline or bald spots. They start to remind me of bowling balls with hula skirts on.
