Hello, Latest addition to collection. I love adjustables so it made sense. Can this razor use standard single edge blades with spine removed? Does anyone have a template? Cheers John Hello,
Beautiful. I found this on another forum: i use a standard SE blade by removing the spine and snipping a bit off each corner. Same mod for certain Valet razors. Awesome razor, one of my favourites to shave with.
Thank you. I'm going to try these blades I got from McMaster Carr (3962A48). They are a three facet angle blade made of stainless. They have the same angle as my Gems. I checked under high mag to confirm. Looks like Gem makes them but not sure. Cheers John
I actually have some. Will try when razor arrives. It could take a week or two, it's coming from across the pond. Cheers John
After a long time, today I used my Wilkinson Sword 7 Day Set Empire. First step ... on the stones. Then on my face ... in SOTD.
Converting GEM type blades is pretty straightforward, but the result is far from decent, the blade will flex. A better solution is making a jig and use it with a Personna injector.
I would pass on the craft/stripper blade, and grab a pack of SE blades at Walgreens or CVS, if nothing else. Gem PTFE coated are pretty much the standard. Craft blades generally have a different bevel set, and will generally give a very "different" shave than the Gems. A pair of flat nosed jewelers' pliers from Hobby Lobby or Michael's are your best friend for the despining and edge breaking. If you use the online 40% coupon, they're ~$5. Snap the upper corners of the blade off at a 45 degree angle, about 3mm in from the tip.
