This is one for the older generation of wet shavers (well...older than me). I was talking with my Dad about different shave soaps/creams the other day and he mentioned that before he used Prorasso Red, he REALLY liked Williams Shave Cream (notice the timeline...before Prorasso Red...which is what I remember him using when I was a kid). I am wondering if anyone has ever used this product or knows if it is still produced under a different label? I would be interested in tracking some down if possible...I just have never heard of it. (Also note I live in Canada where for some reason they don't really sell any wet shave gear period...well in Alberta anyway)
If I recall correctly, it was still being made in France up until a couple of years ago but was eventually discontinued. There were 2 "flavors". Pics and descriptions below from the now defunct vendor razorandbrush.com : From France comes the excellent, moisturising Williams shave lather. Fresh scent, very protective lather, with added silicone for smoothness and outstanding razor glide. A timeless classic! This is the same French shaving lather, with the added freshness provided by menthol. Superior lubricity, thanks to the added silicone in its formula. The Williams shaving cream is one of the oldest and most respected shave lathers in the world.
Although according to Hanzo in this thread, it's still being made in Morocco - in five "flavors" - and Ice Blue "flavor" in Spain per http://www.williams.es/inicio.html .
Luke my man, I have the Williams Menthol cream which a delight. Now, a while back I posted a review on it, so if you have a chance give a read. I seem to feel that in France it can still be found, as well as in Holland. I even remember seeing it in Israel!
As JoAnna said, this vendor closed. Gary at ShoeBox ShaveShop bought out his inventory when he started his business. Although Gary cleared out a lot of these creams and soaps.
No worries. You aren't the first. The site is a great resource for wetshavers, but I do wish he had made it more obvious that the store part was closed.
I hope the wayback machine will store that away like the following thread for posterity. http://web.archive.org/web/20071207223446/www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/feature.htm
i would love to try some of this...any body willing to give up a little sample? please pm me...thanks to all
I remember I saw this cream in Israel some years ago when I didn't used creams, I'll try to find now. Also I saw it in Romania many years ago, maybe they still have it.
