Inspired by the recently rekindled "worst smelling aftershave" thread....I wanted to see what everyone said about blades. If you guys had to pick one blade out of all that you have tried.....which one would you say you hated the most for obvious reasons such as hard tugging or severe irritation? Still to this day...the worst blade (for me) that I have ever tried.....are Astra Superior Platinums. Worst tugging iv ever felt in my life. I might as well of had some tweezers getting after my face.
7 A.M. Hi Platinum Durablade. I couldn't even get through one pass with these. It felt like they were ripping my whiskers out one by one. Horrible, horrible blade!
I really like Astras, and I think most people consider them a very good blade. YMMV. Just like the other thread you are copying. Okay, on to the bad blades. It would be a toss up between Merkurs and Bluebirds for me. Horrible blades. I don't know why a company like Merkur would produce a blade that is considered so unusable by so many shavers. I actually tried Merkurs on three separate occasions in different razors and was unable to get more than half of a pass out of a blade before swapping it out for something else. Bluebirds I only tried once, as it was a blade in a sample pack. Once was enough for me.
I think maybe Dorco. Spent quite a while getting my skin back in shape after that. Not too fond of Merkur either. If I wanted to use a cheese grater on my face I'd just go ahead and do so...
Nacet or Tiger (If you are scared of cutting yourself these will be great for you) Astra SP are my best blade esp for the price.
Thats crazy! I just recently bought 100 Derby blades...them things get me smooth as hell! lol Thats crazy too I see a lot of people hating Merkur blades......they worked pretty good for me but never bought anymore due to the price.....I had found derbys give me a super nice shave for way less money.
Derby, Nacet, Bluebird, just no good for me. Astra SP, and Feather I love. Use mostly Astra because the $ is great.
For me & my husband, it was Personna. They were so irritating that neither of us could even finish one shave with them.
Zorrik. Dorco 300. Merkur used to top the list, and then I got a new razor that "matched" with them. I still don't like them because they're too expensive and because, for me anyway, they only work with that one razor.
This is SUCH a great question to show the truth of "YMMV". Astra SP's and BlueBirds are my favorites as of now and I like them in that order. Other blades have shaved as well as the Astra Sp's for me,but not for the price. My all time mosted hated blade is one I wanted to like very much in the beginning and many other people seem to like....The Dreaded Derby.. However since how a blade works can change with practice or with a different razor I keep whats left of the pack. If fact I'm going to try them with a razor that many people like on this and other forums. I've recently tried this razor with my "favorite" blades and it about TORE my face off. Who knows maybe the combo of worst razor and worst blade will produce a WINNER...
Red Israeli Personna's and Crystal Blues were horrible for me too. I might have just gotten a bad blade for each, but they tore up my face and left bumps for days... I'm still treating them lol.
I think my second least favorite blade is probably Sharks......I can NEVER get to shaving with one of those without cutting myself or leaving a dab of irritation under my chin.
I think maybe they could be good for me if I tried them in a non aggressive razor like my Gillette Tech......Iv only used the Sharks in my 34c which i consider aggressive.....my Parker Shavette.....and my Fatboy which I usually use on a higher setting like 7. I have about 20 DE Shark blades and about 115 left out of a box of 120 Half blades for my Shavette lol. Iv had those for almost a year and a half now lol.
Some of us like Dorcos. I prefer traditional nacho cheese over the newer ranch, but ymmv. Seriously, for the coin and availability, they're fine if nothing else is around.
