New to the world of brush and creams . I just used the co bigelow from bath and body works . They have a $5 tube(1.7 oz) just to try it .Went all crazy lathering it up in my bill bowl and worked a lather( way to much ,,newbie here ) and transfered it to the brush skuttle wait a few second painted on warm lather started shaving 3 passes , painted left over lather on face , cleaned up everything. maybe 2 minute tops. Rinsed lather off with warm sink water , then finished with cold water, little red on neck no problem used Neutrogena post shave lotion ....... stopped .. wait .. whats this . My face so cool , touched face,, it feels frosty , cold even . That ladies and gents was 3 hours ago with much face touching . Now i finally understand this menthol madness . I was worried that menthol smell would be over powering , its not even really noticeable. My face has never felt cooler , now I cant wait for our next florida summer ...... WOW!
Good stuff, that C.O. Bigelow. Now you gotta get some TSD M Bomb and add menthol to what you want when ever you want it. I add four drops to my shampoo, three drops in my lather bowl, and two drops in my palm with a squirt of witch hazel to finish a shave.
Menthol is nice. you can get some menthol crystals on eBay. real cheap that stuff is very strong. you can sprinkle it on creams and after shaves. I would recommend you try skin bracer, that has a real nice menthol kick. light scent as well.
My favorite Menthol product is Liquid Candy Cane Snowflakes (AKA TSD Iced Peppermint AS Splash). I'm indifferent about menthol during my shave, but love menthol aftershaves.
Wow it can get stronger!!!?! :freezing:anifrozen:anifrozen should I be afraid .....on scale of 1-10 where does the bigelow fall ? Does mint do this same thing ?
the strongest store brand name cream that I have tried is ingram you can get it for 5 bucks at westcoastshaving, its stronger that bigelo and proraso.
Ingrams is dang fine! So is Kent at thrice he price! However, TSD ISZ Wheat Cream is "Da Poo" if I may channel 1OLDGI
That " a lot of face touching" is known around here as faceturbating. lol And we have all done/do it. Welcome to the club!
I'd give Beglow a 3. Here's some others I like with my estimated numbers on the 1-10 scale Palmolive Menthol Shave Cream-5 Godrej Menthol Mist-4 The Shave Den's Iced Subzero Shave Cream-9 (love this stuff) Kiss My Face Mint Shave Cream-2.5 For an amazing menthol kick try some aftershave splashes Osage Rub and Alcolado Glacial come to mind-both are about 9.5-they both have alcohol in them so if your prone to dryness stay away. Both are dirt cheap too. I also like The Shave Den's Splashes-double iced. My fave is Lemon and Cedarwood-almost the freeze of Osage/Alcolado. Stay Cold My Friend
First of Mr. Monkey, let me welcome you to TSD. Due to a home technology meltdown, I don't think we've met. Nice to have another member of the Florida Caucus on board. I recently purchased a large tube of C.O. Bigelow. I passed on it for the better part of three years. Thing is, I'm not even really sure why but I just never got around tuit. Well after several shaves with it why it hasn't come to the party sooner is an even bigger mystery. This stuff is really good, priced right and available just down the road. Moving forward, I'm sure it will be one my core creams/soaps joining the likes of VDH Deluxe, Omega, Arko shavestick, and Speick shavestick. I've always been kind of a soap guy but I must say that C.O. Bigelow may have peaked my interest in sampling some other creams. Can you say TOBS Eton College? As far as menthol grunt is concerned I'd say C.O. Bigelow is on the heavy end of light, comparable to Omega. For the unabashed menthol kick in the grapes TSD Iced Sub-Zero is the big boy on the block. On a scale of 1-10 I'd say Iced Sub-Zero is about a 25. Danny also gives a good steer on Osage Rub. Not much for lingering scent but for that York Peppermint Patty feeling on your face it works very well and of course, no discussion of cool face would be complete without the mention of a true American icon Aqua (by God) Velva.
Me too I just tried it for the first time as well. The only other cream I have used are Castle Forbes which are much different. I am really glad I got some of this. I am still having trouble with getting the water ratio right and end up having to make way too much. My face feels pretty fantastic in this cold Chicago winter.
C.O. Bigelow Well the rebranded Proraso market under C.O. Bigelow is still one of my favorite creams for just that reason. I would rate it even on the menthol scale as Godrej Menthol mist, but it is a better overall cream in my opinion. The tingle is a very good thing after completing the shave.
I agree with pretty much all that has been said thus far. I do want to add a word of caution, from experience. It is possible to have too much menthol, not that it will hurt you but that it is damn uncomfortable for an hour or so and there is no escaping it. No amount of washing will bring it back to normal; you just have to live through it. Having said that, I think TSD ISZ is the strongest AND most comfortable level of menthol out there. I think anymore would begin getting into the "too much" area. Joanna did a hell of a job finding the edge without going over. This isn't to say not to get some crystals and experiment, but to be cautious when doing so. I have done the absolute worst thing (in terms of shaving related menthol abuse) I think you can do with menthol and it didn't kill me but it did suck (extremely uncomfortable) for a while and that was applying menthol oil directly to my face. I was tinkering with some crystals and noticed there was residue in the bowl when I was done. The residue was oily and made my eyes water when I smelled it so I knew it was menthol. Being a menth head, I figured I'd ride the lightning and WOW was it a ride. I do not recommend this whatsoever though, just hoping to share for someone to learn from my experience. If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help if I can. Menthol is awesome. I may not be the menth master, but I have done some experimenting and can help keep you from wasting crystals or ruining product due to overuse of them.
