I added this nice little German Schlussler “ASAN” “ASAR” circa 1939-1943 all brass 3 piece razor to my collection. It shaves nicely but has some blade feel and is a little angle sensitive to me. This razor was re-plated in nickel and is a nice piece of history. It shaves a lot like a Merkur 37c but has a little more blade feel to me. This razor looks like a slant at a glance but it is not a slant razor. Happy Shaves To Everyone, Bill G
Are you 100% sure the baseplate is brass? That style of razor almost always has a zinc baseplate. Hmm. You said it was re-plated, so I guess you would know. I might have to keep an eye peeled for one of these at a reasonable price.
Yes it is 100% brass. I have found pictures of several vintage ones just like this one on line some for sale with the plating missing and they are brass. Also this one was re-plated in nickel and most all the plating guys out there do not re-plate Zamik. *Matt at Razor Emporium re-did the plating on this one. ** Some of the research pic’s below of razors just like the one I have you will notice the brass baseplate. The hole razor is brass. Bill G
Pic of one for sale on E Bay. I feel like I got lucky getting the one above that I got. I payed $40.00 for it re-plated. It’s a cool razor and all brass, not a Zamik base plate like other brand razors of this style. The same era Henso J.A Henckels razors like this are also all brass. Bill G
Here is a better pic of the brand engraving on the razors handle just above the take down knob (knob removed in pic) Happy Shaves, Bill G
