Hello, all! Until now, I restricted my shave-related postings to that OTHER shaving forum site. You know. The one that features a rather large and dangerous rodent whose fur makes for fine, if rather pungent, shaving brushes. But they got so sick of what they called my "sophomoric, pun-laden attempts at humor" that they, as group, two-banded together to suggest that I spend more time here. Anyhoos, I have been doing the wet-shaving DE thing for about 8 months now. I only chance upon the concept when I was looking for a good deal on Mach3 on Google and happened to check out Classicshaving.com and their propaganda on the joys of the DE shaving. Well, 8 months and $500 later, here I am, a dedicated DE wetshaver who spends far too much time on these boards instead of working. Here's how my shaving has evolved from an amateur's first steps to a fully invested, debt-laden fetishist. Razor: Old School: Mach 3 First DE: Parker 22R (retired) RAS since then: Fatboy, Slim, Redtip, Slant (borrowing) Lathering means: Old School: Barbasol Yellow First Soap: Williams cheapo stuff Second refinement: Omega (Proraso-made) SAS since then: Mama Bear's Eucalyptus (sp.), Monsaven, MWF Application technique: Old school: Fingers First brush: CVS cheapo $5 synthetic Second brush: $10 board found at a going out of business sale BAS since then: Tweedeman pure badger, Shavemac fine badger Blades: Old school: Mach3 bought on Ebay (most likely the Chinese counterfeits) First DE blades: 7 .a.m.s (came with the Parker) Blades round two: Feathers (loved at first, have given up due to blood loss) Blades round three: Westcoast blade sampler (Winners: Red Personnas, Crystal; losers: Derbys and Astras) Blades currently hoarding: Bluebirds and Gillette Bleues After shave: Old school: Store brand alchohol green stuff First DE: Store brand alchohol green stuff Refinement: Nivea Sensitive Skin Balm Settled with: Store brand alchohol green stuff Prep technique: Old school: Splash face with warm water First DE: Apply hot wet washcloth to face Settled with: Kyle's prep Shaving Web sites Old school: Never heard of 'em. First DE: That "other" site, lurker Today: Wasting far too much time posting and opining on all these sites and searching Ebay for deals. That's far too much information for Day #1. Jeff in Boston
