Looking at my after shaves and after shave balms it struck me that I'm much more budget minded when it comes to that part of the wet shaving experience than I am when it comes to the actual razors... In rough order of preference, not including sample bottles: Provence Sante (Love it!) Pinaud The Veg (Mmmm.....) Zirh Erase (a great, great tonic) Zirh Soothe Nivea Sensitive ASB Florida Water Aubrey Men's Stock North Woods Stirling Coniferous Stirling Bay Laurel Aqua Velva Musk Stirling SDM ASB Afta Original Soap Commander Endurance ASB (too much menthol for me) Humphrey's Cucumber & Melon Witch Hazel (caused me to break out) How about you lot? Show and tell!
I'm not much of an AS type guy. The S70 has a nice light scent that dissipates quickly, balm for the cold winter, and alum is good year round. I made up for it elsewhere.
Aftershaves are what I pay the least attention to as well, and the least money for. Because of my job I don't wear much of anything with a scent to work so it's mostly weekends or just light applications and I definitely am old school with my tastes. Aqua Velva Ice Blue, Musk, Clubman and Lilac Vegetal are all a part of my den as well as Proraso, but I'm happy with those. The bottles I have may last me three years.
I have the 3 Aqua Velvas and an approximately 40 year old bottle of Old Spice that I don't use. It is so strong it makes my eyes water. Aqua Velva Musk is my favourite.
Aftershaves are my weakness. My wife loves AV Musk so it has to stay around, although she's gotten quite fond of The Veg since I was chosen. I do notice her taking an extra long whiff, though, when I have the musk on.
Yeah if I only had the top 50% of the ones in my list I'd be happy - seeing that they are getting about 90% of the total use. The others I'll slowly use up but won't buy again. After shave is one products where I, for some reason, don't feel the need to go out and explore too much in after I found a handful that works really well for me.
That's quite the list - but I thought soap was your weakness? Out of the ones you've listed the one I will try one day is Lucky Tiger as I keep hearing so many good things about it - and it's priced well.
I think both are. It's actually a sickness hobby I have the Lucky Tiger Aspen, I really like it. I've put some menthol crystal into the spray bottle I'm using to jazz it up.
Will snap a pic later but... Clubman VI Bay Rum Clubman Original Lucky tiger Bay rum Razorock XX RR XXX RR son of zues Nivea sensitive balm L'Occitane balm Thayer's original Alum stick I mix the clubman stuff with witch hazel to dilute the scent some. I don't like an overpowering scent.
I've thinned the herd considerably. Some went to my sons; one went to my mother; another went to a TSD member (The Veg!); some went to the recycling bin. My current stash includes: AFTERSHAVES Black River bay rum (home made) Ogallala Lime & Peppercorn Bay Rum Pinaud Bay Rum Stirling Sharped Dressed Man Osage Rub English Leather AV Ice Blue Musco Real Spiced Citrus DR Harris Marlborough DR Harris Arlington Fine L'Orange Noir Fine Platinum Fine American Blend 4711 Grey Flannel Thayers WH with Aloe BALMS Institut Karite Proraso Nivea Nivea Sensitive Pre de Provence Citrus & Cedar Shea butter (home made) Wm Neumann & Co. I'm not listing too many I missed clubman and the veg looking at my post, wonder what they would smell like all mixed together?
I've got an Old Spice cologne that's 3/4 full, and @HoosierTrooper tells me it's from the 70's-80's. I agree, it is really strong, but from a distance I rather like the smell. So, what I do is pull the stopper and just touch my palm with it, (which I figure amounts to less than 1/2 of 1 drop) then immediately douse that in Osage Rub and apply. Believe it or not, I've actually had a couple of people tell me they thought it was nice.
I don't have too many, aftershaves are something I'm becoming more interested in and there's plenty I would like to try. I have Nivea moisturising balm Nivea Sensitive balm Pinaud Clubman Vanilla Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve Pinaud Clubman Musk (Just a sample ) Williams Ice blue Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food.
