My wonderful mom picked up this 4-piece travel razor for me at a bargain price. I'm hoping some of you can tell me more about it. It appears to be one of the rebranded travel razors made by Merkur (it says "Made in Germany") and by comparison my guess is it's pre-WWII. Here are a few overall pictures: I also have a good closeup of the head where it says "Zorli Werke" and "Made in Germany". You can see one tooth is slightly bent, but it appears like it wouldn't affect the shave. So, can anyone confirm what I think I know or tell me any more?
Can't give you any more info than what is in Waits'... It's listed in Waits' as Zorlig, no picture, and says: Zorlig-Werke, Frankfurt, Germany. Copy of Gillette travel razor, comb guard, two studs, two-piece handle in approximately 1-inch square thin metal case.
Nice looking little razor. I like the slot for blades in the lid. Did you have a chance to shave with it yet?
Jodi - thanks for the information. About what I expected. Dale - I have not shaved with it. It took some playing around with to figure out the exposure is only even when the head is on in the right direction. It's also obviously going to be highly aggressive. But, I will give it a go sometime this week. Maybe I'll get brave tonight.
I didn't shave with it. I simply can't get the blade exposure even enough that I dare. One corner of the head seems bent up (or maybe the baseplate is bent down. I may try to straighten it, but for now it looks like it will be a display piece.
