Public Service Announcement. If anyone ordered a Zulu Grey stone from the old website, and never received your order, please go here to resolve the issue. https://www.facebook.com/groups/435806966593020/permalink/2066015370238830/?mibextid=Nif5oz For non-facebooky types, here is the text: "Please no replies besides those who this has been a problem for. Anyone who ordered/paid for a Zulu Grey from the old/original website and is a member here, please post what was not delivered, what you are out of pocket, and that you have your paperwork available should the owner/original vendor choose to address this. If you know someone who isn't on here that this happened to feel free to let them know of this thread and to chime in. I just want it all in one place instead of fragmented in a large thread. Thanks."
I ended up getting a refund through Paypal. Ordered in late November 2019. Gave it until the first of May. Tried emailing, got no answer. So I opened a case just before the 180 day window closed.
It was OK, very slow. I never use it now, I prefer Shapton Glass 16k, Gokyumo 20k and JNat. I guess my lack of use says it all.
Zulu Grey - If you own a quality Thuringen you have nothing to gain from buying a Zulu Grey However when they were selling at $150 and Eschers were bringing over $500 it was pretty attractive.. Full disclosure... I was given a large one that one of the guys on SRP hated I specifically asked for someone that hated theirs and thought it was bad to have an opportunity to test it .. One of the guys sent his, he told me "Have Fun I NEVER want to see that damn thing again" I tested it on a few of my razors first and liked the results,, I began testing it on customer's razors, found that it received WOW results on Solingen, American, Swedish full hollows.. with the first 100 honed.. After narrowing down to those razors I got a Higher Percentage of WOW responses... Funny part of the story I asked the guy that sent it if he wanted to send a couple of razors out for me to hone on it to see if he wanted it back.. his response was a giggle "Hell no, that would just make me mad at you, instead of the hone" He passed not long after that, so I will never sell that Zulu, I still smile when I use it thinking of that answer
I haven't tried a Zulu Grey, but if one passed my way, to try, I would, just for fun. I'm happy as can be, with the two Eschers I have. I just wish they were larger. As for me, I've acquired a few razors people didn't like, and swore they were junk, only to find they were very good razors. They just needed a different outlook on the stones.
