I'm quite jealous of your uncle and you for the stories he may have shared. The f4u is my favorite airplane and I finally got to see one fly last weekend at the great New England airshow. Checked one of the bucket list that day!

"Pappy" is a reference to Pappy Boyington, commander of the Black Sheep Squadron during WWII. They flew the F4U Corsairs over in the Pacific theater. There was even a TV series about 'em.

Oh, I bet that was fun. I've never been in a WWII fighter, but I have been in a B-24 Boxcar and a PBY Catalina.
