I thought the Brush forum would be the appropriate place to post pictures of the making of the 30 DC Limited Edition brush. For those of you who don't follow the 30 Day Rule/Focus monthly thread, this was a fun project designed to make an LE brush open to any folks who consider themselves part of the '30 DC'. The handles are mostly from the same board of figured maple, with a few of the handles made from Cypress. There was then a group order of APShave Co knots -tuxedo and cashmere- as well as some deciding to put in their own knots. A few guys asked for pictures of the process, so here goes: From rough stock- top is Cypress, 2nd is Maple: The rough work was done between a dead centre and a live centre. The rounded cylindar was then moved to a jawed Chuck for a more secure and precise hold: A gouge and a few scrapers are used to form the shape: The hole is then hollowed out. I don't use a drill, as it burns this hardwood (and Bit!) easily: A parting tool then severs off the brush, afterwards, it is put top first into the chuck to finish the bottom: Brushes after turning: Bulb is painted: Add 3 coats of Marine Urethane with sanding, plus some knots and ta da: ...and that's the 30 DC LE Brush.
Beautiful work Jason! The step by step photos & finished pieces make me want to own a lathe. Tapatalk Via Kyocera
Trying to get a quick post in between rounds lol. This android tablet does not have spell check. This redneck needs it....or a secretary.
