Just go slower around your facial hair until you have your technique down. I shave my head and have a hard time not cutting my sideburns shorter than I would like to , as I have a full beard now. Your technique will eventually improve however, just take your time.
Sorry for the long delay, but I just started a new job and things got real crazy real quick. I took the advice to "pre-shave" with an unloaded razor, and that helped quite a bit! I don't shave very often, ~ 1/week or so, so practice doesn't come very often. I'll keep working at it, as I've really enjoyed wet shaving thus far. Thanks again to all who replied.
