Wondering if these would be a good deal. In order left to right: Wade & Butcher Sheffield Salamander Can't make this last one out but says made in Memphis TN
For a shop that's pretty fair. Around here they would ask 2x those amounts. The Wade & Butcher would be the one I'd go after. You could also see if you could swing a deal for the entire lot. Reslize that they'll all need some restoration and honing. Not a big deal if you're up to the task. If you have them restored and/or honed, that would be an added expense. It's hard to see the condition in the picture. Make sure the edge is free of corrosion and chips, etc.
Thanks! The edges of all 3 were in good shape and they all for the most part seemed in good shape. Really liked the Wade & Butcher and Salamander, just didn't know if the prices were in line. Thanks again
The wade and butcher is the only one worth having of the 3. The price is ok. I can't 100% guarantee that it won't have any issues, but it looks pretty solid from the pic. I would try to talk them down on the price as well. 20 or under would be great!
I payed FAR more for the Wade and Butcher I bought in an antique store, but it has a larger blade and a barbers notch. The style I bought goes for $400+ dollars on Ebay when they are in really good shape. But I can't find any W&B razors that look like what's in your picture for a fair comparison.
I would offer $20.00 and be fairly comfortable paying $25.00 for the W&B. Of course, I'd probably offer $40.00 for the lot and pay $50.00. Good luck.
I paid $9 and change for this one: a couple bucks worth of wood, some elbow grease and you can see what can be done
I would make an offer on the Wade and Butcher and Salamander , As long as the Shaving edge does not have rust or pitting .
Truth be told...you kinda have to cover yourself with these straights. Once they are cleaned and honed, you can find bad things real fast. I would rather be safe. At $30, I like this straight, at $20 I love it. It's as simple as that.
Even at $30, its 'value-priced.' Should you purchase it for $30, then clean the razor up and hone it (or get it honed professionally)—have some good shaves with it! You''ll have no problems finding a buyer pricing in the $50 (and up) range. A shave-ready W&B in good condition will sell.
I'm gonna try to go back today or tomorrow and look at them again, then make an offer. I appreciate everyone's input. I told myself I wouldn't get into straight razors but I obviously didn't listen, lol.
